You don't think that also would take local government rezoning areas? Not to mention, the loss to the landowners? One can charge way more for business rentals than residential. I remember a lawsuit down here when an area got rezone for less...or was it the seller claimed it was zoned for business when it wasn't so the buyer lost money on the deal?
I've noticed over my years that local govt has no problem rezoning a GD thing when enough influence and money is involved.
What loss? You've got empty warehouses, businesses and office buildings all over the place....... you determine the current fair market value and offer the owners a fair price.
Govt doesn't seem to have a problem when a highway goes thru or a rail line? right? How about just plain condemned properties? For instance, we had a large mall in our downtown area........the local govt was stupid enough to have gotten involved in first the taking of existing small businesses to get that mall built.......and then a few decades later, when it all fell apart, getting stuck with the $Losses involved. They never bothered building a new skyscraper with affordable housing, though. They did build several homeless shelters which now house mostly people that aren't even from the area. They're brilliant. Talk to the landowners that consider it a loss. Ive seen articles about the landowners being pissed many times. alsadatmarketing.com/difference-between-residential-vs-commercial-properties/I suspect this is rather important.

Interesting argument.
I just drove past yet another new strip mall getting built and wondered "WTF could they possibly be doing there? There's tons of places empty and shorthanded around here as it is."

I vaguely remember that one......... more recent was the guy from that Doc called Tread that went off on his local town and the big business that shafted him, right?
It reminds me of anti-gun types who mention tanks and cannons as something regular people weren't ever allowed to own. They must not check into these sorta things? Private merchant ships hundreds of years ago had cannons to protect their property/haul.

He was a drug addict.. Had been in Desert Storm so he knew how to drive a tank. Prior to this they did not lock them at the National Guard branch in Clairemont so he just hopped in one & drove it away. He did not own the damned thing, dude. He was pissed the city wouldn't give him a claim to mine gold in the back yard of the house he rented in Clairemont. I think his drug of choice was meth

They don't want to be in shelters because they don't want to follow rules. No drugs or alcohol.
We need mental institutions where people can be put against their will for their safety because that's where it started. Not being able to keep the mentally ill in institutions against their will.
It's like asking criminals if they want to be in jail. Of course not. The institutions made them take their meds which were not fun like meth or pot.

Interesting authoritarian approach in these progressive times.

So you know nothing about how they emptied the institutions, do you? Judges said people committed couldn't be kept against their will.. even on doctor orders.

You've explained it to me several times.......it was Reagan and those darned judges' fault
Now........it's been decades since.......so what have the Blue areas done to remedy it? to keep their own area citizens protected better? Handed out needles? Allowed tent cities? Poop Squads!
