They are angry at where the power in this country has put them. The companies claim to be "family," but do not care.
Because that's what the public demanded from their PR departments. Who told you to EVER believe that?
It's no different than all of these corporate charity drives. You think the company truly cares? Or they just do it cuz it looks good to the general public? And those corporate donations are probably a good chunk of the charity in this country anyway........so WHY all the bitching?
Th3e AVERAGE person does not care, merh. Why would a company or a govt be ANY different? They're comprised of people, too.
And bragging up family doesn't seem all that smart an idea when you consider what families get up to with one another, as well.
It's PR alright. They manipulate people. That's the tag with Starbucks. The workers are "family" so they don't need to form a union. They do not call them employees. They are "partners". They sell that their partners are special to them, that the company cares so much for their partner family.

Can you be manipulated?
Partners? Does Starbucks have profit sharing for it's employees?
Sorry, I've just never bought into any of that schpeel from any company.

Movies? Music? Theater? Union at the nationwide scale. If Statbucks truly were treating the employees as partners in more than name, would the employees be trying to unionize?. .

You're completely ignoring my point........ on purpose?
Unions can spend their money donating to politicians........OR they could simply start opening up businesses of their own. But they don't do that. Because that would require taking the risk and responsibility onto themselves. They'd actually have to work harder and compete against others. They'd likely fail most of the time.
If Starbucks is so horrible in their treatment, then any Union should be able to woo their fully trained workers away from them with higher pay and better bennies......because there's no evil rich guy at the top hogging all the profits, right?
Open up a McDowells instead of pestering McDonalds. Open up a Worldmart, instead of leeching off of Walmart. Open up a Hammer & Sicklebucks instead of forcing union onto Starbucks

Unions exist to help employees get fair treatment. How does opening competition make fair treatment at the original employer?

Easy, it makes all the employees at the original place wanna work at the new spot that offers better pay and treatment.
Once Ford started paying double the rate to his workers, how many experienced workers do you think came from other automakers over to his shop?
See? No need for Govt intervention. Besides, the Govt already has all sorts of rules/regulations already in place to protect the workers. What more do you need?

it's been some of the absolute worst TV ever created.

We no longer work to live, we simply work to survive. As Paul Williams wrote "Working so hard to be somebody special Not working g just to survive But you're working so hard that you don't even know you're alive." But now people are working so hard to survive they have no time to live.

Or are you saying the fact things have stayed the same or gotten worse makes it OK? UNIONS DID THAT?! OHMY GOD!!! EVERYONE KNOWS UNIONS ARE EVIL!!!

I have never denied the good unions did in their early days.
But like so many things that start out with great intentions, people being involved mixed with more power almost always leads to abuses and corruption.
Didn't the Kennedys go after Hoffa & Friends?
And as I've pointed out before, my opinion that working at McDonalds today is a heap load easier than working in a coal mine at the turn of the previous century.
