Easy, it makes all the employees at the original place wanna work at the new spot that offers better pay and treatment.
Once Ford started paying double the rate to his workers, how many experienced workers do you think came from other automakers over to his shop?
See? No need for Govt intervention. Besides, the Govt already has all sorts of rules/regulations already in place to protect the workers. What more do you need?
But there are only so many jobs at the new place so the others can just go to hell?
But the best employees rise to the top
WHY in the world would you want all the workers when many of them are poor workers?

I have never denied the good unions did in their early days.
But like so many things that start out with great intentions, people being involved mixed with more power almost always leads to abuses and corruption.
Didn't the Kennedys go after Hoffa & Friends?
And as I've pointed out before, my opinion that working at McDonalds today is a heap load easier than working in a coal mine at the turn of the previous century.
One bad apple spoils the whole bushel?
do you remember the scene from Big when Josh first starts working? And Jon Lovitzs tells him "Hey! Slow down!!" Union mentality permeates many workplaces.

I've seen that mentality on many non union jobs. The laundry wasn't union. It was hot minimum wage work. The boss bitched at me for being slow daily. Speed up! He can do it faster! The other gal told me days I was out sick he bitched they would never keep up, that he hoped I got better quickly. So much for him being so much faster than me.

\The biggest difference being a regular job, non-union........and you'd get fired for pushing that crap too far.
So he was giving the same treatment to all. You just happened to be a better worker........and he didn't wanna share that with you. It's good to know you're more valuable.

What's so judgemental about it, merh? If all jobs were more like piecemeal, you'd get paid by HOW productive you are. More productive would get more money and less productive would get less. I got no problem with that.
It's directly relatable to sales and profits.
My previous employer loved me because I cranked out work much more than others. I enjoyed it and was very efficient. I likely kept the store open an extra year or so just by saving him money. He could have just as easily shut it down for a steady decrease in business. So it was a Win-Win for the both of us.

Because one person should be able to do the work of 1 person. Employers have come to expect way more. Remember the 50s? Dad worked his shift, came home to dinner on the table because he had a job that paid enough to support the family? What happened?

1 person may just be that much better than the next 1 person. That's a fact, right?
That's why it's the workers responsibility to protect themselves from being abused. Pace yourself if you feel pressured. Maybe not slow to the union pace, but don't kill yourself over a job.
We rebuilt the world since almost total destruction outside the US. That's what happened. We can't pretend we're the supplier to the world anymore. And because of that, we don't have the profit margins to work with. We can't even handle the wage differences between countries

How does that work out? Rowing a boat, everyone else is on pace but you are working doubletime?

As I've said, if it's a piecemeal type of work......you get paid by your production/output.
If it's the other kind of work, you work at the pace that's comfortable for you........if they decide to fire you because you're just not productive enough, maybe you're just not cut out for that line of work? If you take twice to three times as long to complete the same task, do you feel you deserve the same pay as others?
I can't think of too many jobs where you'd be caught totally unaware of the requirements before working the job.

I'd love to ask this douchenozzle "What time is lunch exactly?" and is everyone allowed to take it at the same time?

The general consensus in the comments is the CEO didn't say anything. The manager was trying to impress his boss. The CEO has to understand it is lunch time unless he specifically said all hands to be there, delay lunch which sounds a bit off since he's obviously coming at lunch time

Yep, that'd be like showing up 10 minutes after Closing and wondering why people didn't stick around to put in extra hours?

She signed a contract. I know they don't mean anything to anyone anymore.
And if she's such the hot item, and so in demand, why wasn't she immediately signed by any other stations to a long term, higher contract?
