I mean aside from the tax dollars being handed out yet agin, of course.........
Facing a bus driver shortage, this Delaware school will pay parents to take their kids to school CNN Expansion, Mel Alonso By Melissa Alonso, CNN (CNN)A Delaware school is offering parents cash to drive their children to campus for the year to help offset the bus driver shortage affecting schools nationwide. "EastSide wants to pay you $700 for the year for dropping off and picking up each child from school," said a notice to parents on the EastSide Charter School website. The Wilmington school said the entire state is facing a shortage of bus drivers and "empowering parents is the best solution." The incentive is $700 per child and, "if you have 3 children we would give you $2,100," the school notice said. Nationally, the need for school bus drivers is expected to remain at "critical levels" over the coming months. That shortage will hurt the industry's ability to provide consistent service stretching well into the school year, according to the National School Transportation Association. Both contracted school bus transportation companies and district-run operations are struggling to find drivers, as a number of issues, including Covid-19-related health concerns and vaccine hesitancy, continue to escalate "despite the industry's best efforts," Curt Macysyn, executive director of the association, told CNN.

What about parents who already drop their kids off?
What about parents who agree to carpool a bunch of kids to school in their minivan?
It's not a "green" solution, nor is it fiscally responsible.
However, the mom's with the minivans looking to score a few thousand dollars in payouts should absolutely be actively recruited by the bus companies.
Too bad that town doesn't have adequate public transportation services....

I've often marveled at the more modern trend of sometimes hundreds of parents dropping off/picking up their kids. THAT just did not happen back in my day.
And risk all of their health?
Excellent point.......some entrepreneur could really clean up picking up a shuttle or full size bus, huh?
You should post some video of your rides on public transport sometime. I'd imagine it's a bit more civilized and tolerable than the rides in the US often are. My wife got back from Vegas a few weeks back and that was her biggest gripe about the trip.......over the shortened hours, over the masking requirements, over the TSA, over the higher costs and fewer options and over the newly arrived 'Surge Pricing' now employed by Uber/Lyft. Riding on public transport.

One of things that has stood out to me when it comes to supposedly horrid places of overpowering Govt control....... the former Soviet Union, North Korea, a few others places........ is how clean and pleasant the railway stations remain.
And I must admit a deeply subdued desire to see some public caning whenever I watch people just toss their garbage in public

Interestingly, there are quite a number of Chinese who see no problem with throwing trash on the street even though there are more public trash cans than ever before. Their reasoning? "If there's no trash to pick up, there would be less need for street sweepers, and people need work."

Of course not... You don't want them being able to identify you in a police lineup.

What about capitalist BS? like?
Capitalism ignores peoples' needs, results in wealth inequality and does not promote equal opportunity. It encourages mass consumption, is unsustainable and provides an incentive for business owners to harm the environment for monetary gain. It's also ineffective and unstable.
