Not sure if the accents will resonate with your ears........but here's two clips from the series I just blew through........
1. They're watching a buddy's shop while he's away.........
2. They're going to a deceased friend's home to reclaim stuff that he borrowed from them...........

I don't generally have a problem with those types of accents... you're thinking of Prometheus And I like the thinking of the guy who would claim as much free milk as possible.

I don't mind a Scottish accent as long as the speaker has had less than 3 beers. After that, their accent gets harder and harder to decipher. By about beer 6 also you can do is let the Scot ramble on while you nod and make non-committal grunts and hope your facial expression is appropriate to the topic.
It's the Kiwi accent that truly gives me fits.

Not sure where your hearing is at these days............. but as mine has really started to slip, I really appreciate the assist that CC can sometimes add to the viewing experience, too.
I've chuckled at the number of people over the years that refused to watch excellent movies that had subtitles, too.

A former worker with my wife was from Ireland and he truly sounded drunk all the time. I think it's excellent cover for when you actually are imbibing.
Once Were Warriors is a pretty good film from a few decades ago. There was a bit of drunken behavior in that one, too.

It's all that sheep shagging that makes them difficult to understand. You try talking clearly with a mouth full of wool.

My hearing's still okay, but I've occasionally used CC to keep track of what's going on... Many modern film and TV productions seem to think it's clever to shout bits of plot exposition over gunfire or explosions or while the main characters are running for their lives away from the camera. I don't seem to have as many problems with older works. I also watch my fair share of productions that feature multiple languages... so CCs are normally rather vital in those instances. PS - And there are musical artists that I've never been able to understand... not since I was a kid.

I have not. Are the reviews correct in that it's a slight let down?

I think you're really on to something. It was never a big problem in the past.......because dialogue was actually important.
I was gonna post a list of misunderstood song lyrics.......but one of my favorite personal tales was a friend who thought Steve Miller was singing Shoot the children.....with no shoes on their feet. She asked "Wasn't that controversial?"

All I can say is that I liked it. It pushes the story forwards, as a sequel should.

Yeah, character development, plot progression and snappy dialogue seems to have given way to poorly edited action sequences, overbearing CGI and mumbled verbal exchanges.

I enjoyed both of those films as well. Billy Connolly was certainly a welcome addition to the cast.

One of the most hilarious people to ever exist........and like so often before, a comedian makes a pretty decent dramatic actor when he he decides to....... Mrs. Brown?

Oh yeah... and I have MRS BROWN in my collection. The same goes for the late, great Rik Mayall. I saw him in two different serious roles on British TV and they were both a chilling revelation to another aspect of his skills and talent.

Wow. Didn't expect that pull.
I've only known him from 3 things, Drop Dead Fred, Bottom/Guest House Paradiso and the Statesman. Any strong recommendations for a straight role?
Gone wayyyyyyyyyyy too soon.

For me personally, I think his greatest serious role was as Police Lieutenant, Daniel Blaney, in the episode, THE WHITE KNIGHT STRATAGEM, in the short-lived TV series, MURDER ROOMS: THE DARK BEGINNINGS OF SHERLOCK HOLMES. He was also excellent when he appeared in a couple of episodes of THE BILL in 1997. Apart from that, he also had a couple of appearances in JONATHAN CREEK, an episode of MISS MARPLE and an episode of MIDSUMMER MURDERS... the last two both in 2009. However, getting back to his comedy, have you seen THE YOUNG ONES? That was probably his breakout role. I remember seeing it when I was in high school. Or his appearances in the various BLACK ADDER TV series? He started out in an uncredited role in an episode of the first TV series, then came back as various versions of Lord Flasheart in later seasons. Or the stage shows of BOTTOM? They picked up where the TV series left off and went where the TV series never dared...
