For me personally, I think his greatest serious role was as Police Lieutenant, Daniel Blaney, in the episode, THE WHITE KNIGHT STRATAGEM, in the short-lived TV series, MURDER ROOMS: THE DARK BEGINNINGS OF SHERLOCK HOLMES. He was also excellent when he appeared in a couple of episodes of THE BILL in 1997. Apart from that, he also had a couple of appearances in JONATHAN CREEK, an episode of MISS MARPLE and an episode of MIDSUMMER MURDERS... the last two both in 2009. However, getting back to his comedy, have you seen THE YOUNG ONES? That was probably his breakout role. I remember seeing it when I was in high school. Or his appearances in the various BLACK ADDER TV series? He started out in an uncredited role in an episode of the first TV series, then came back as various versions of Lord Flasheart in later seasons. Or the stage shows of BOTTOM? They picked up where the TV series left off and went where the TV series never dared...
oh, yes....... I forgot to include that........ it was the first place I saw him. Though the character of Viv made me laugh harder. And then when Drop Dead Fred came out I knew he was a keeper. I'll always love the way Rik pronounced his 'R's, too.
Black Adder was a series I never seemed to catch. I know I like Rowan and the few episodes I've seen made me laugh...... just never lucked out with the timing back then.
No, I'll have to see if I can find those, too. I loved their interplay. They were right up there with other great duos, weren't they? Over the top silly. Just that motorcycling pissing scene from Paradiso is worth the wait.

Just that motorcycling pissing scene from Paradiso is worth the wait. There are many memorable moments from GUEST HOUSE PARADISO... and it must be nearly time for a re-watch. Let me know what if THE WHITE KNIGHT STRATAGEM works for you... And I found a couple of the stage shows on YT as well.

I don't mind a Scottish accent as long as the speaker has had less than 3 beers. After that, their accent gets harder and harder to decipher. By about beer 6 also you can do is let the Scot ramble on while you nod and make non-committal grunts and hope your facial expression is appropriate to the topic.
It's the Kiwi accent that truly gives me fits.
A former worker with my wife was from Ireland and he truly sounded drunk all the time. I think it's excellent cover for when you actually are imbibing.
Once Were Warriors is a pretty good film from a few decades ago. There was a bit of drunken behavior in that one, too.
I can understand the Irish all day long.
The Welsh are another Celtic group that seem to become indecipherable when drunk....

It's all that sheep shagging that makes them difficult to understand. You try talking clearly with a mouth full of wool. That also explains my above comment about the Welsh....
