.
Members of Congress have no such prohibition placed on them, but I think they should.
I agree, they should. But we both know it wouldn't matter. They all know how to game the system whether they officially create exemptions for themselves or not.
And that's also why I feel it's comical to expect the president to honor such a silly 'tradition' at this point.
The problem is that it's not a "tradition." It's IN the constitution. It's the law of the land.
Revealing tax returns is a "tradition."
I think it's a good one, but it's not a law, so...
Thankfully, the Framers made sure that we could change the constitution should we feel that it needs to be updated and there is nothing stopping you from proposing an amendment for a similar emoluments clause for members of Congress.
Personally, I'm with Jefferson and think that the whole thing needs to be rewritten every once in a while, but I doubt that's ever going to happen. - or be successful - so, let's just keep plowing ahead with the means at our disposal.

I'm often shocked by the unwillingness of Congress to pass laws or simply eliminate those that they clearly no longer support? Are they afraid it would prove something to their voters?
As a redhead, I've always been a bit more interested in Jefferson........and his major conflict of his life in regards to his 2nd 'wife' is always an interesting discussion on love, morality, principles, etc etc It's understood she had the same sort of attractive features he liked in his first wife. Genes and all that.
But I've also heard that he was fervently against the growth and excessive power of a Federal Govt.........right up until he actually became president. THEN? Not so much.

"Now then....who, errr......wants to join me for a swim and maybe rub my back?.....and front?" ( totally imagined quote, of course)

How does one, like yourself, consider Jefferson these days?

Like myself?
You mean, highly educated?
Jefferson was an extremely intelligent man who, if he wanted to have his voice heard, had to live a life in conflict with his own ideals. His is a tragic story that is often misrepresented for political gain.

I think some of those people were amazing......especially for their day.
Faulty? Of course.
