Same goes for China and India......and wherever
It's the same air floating around the planet.
It makes no sense to move all manufacturing out of one area, only to have it's side effects pop up elsewhere. Especially if elsewhere isn't nearly as strict about pollution. Out of sight, out of mind doesn't work all that well in this scenario.

But it works well when you want to lay the blame of the ills of the world at a particular doorstep doesn't it?
China pollutes by manufacturing all the things we don't want to produce, but they are an enemy so we don't mention that particular point. It's better just to keep thinking of them as "dirty people."
"Liberals" start forest fires in the US so that we can deflect from the republican-owned industry that still pollutes our land, air, and water.
India pollutes by having to generate electricity to run call centers for our companies. They aren't an enemy, but they are brown so we make sure to denigrate them anyway.
Yet no one much bitches about the extremely white EU which - as a whole - produces the third largest amount of air pollution. India is 4th BTW... 1/2 of America's contribution.
Germany, by itself is 7th in pollution production... but they've off-shored most of their heavy industry to China as well.
One day, China is going to close their doors and jack up the prices while all the other countries scramble to find another, poorer country to pollute... most likely only to find that China got there first and not only built factories but built infrastructure as well.
Let's face it. We've been dumping our trash on somebody else' doorstep for decades all the while blaming them for causing the problem and we've done it so that we can line the pockets of the wealthy and gain political leverage coupled with racist animosity of the people.

I see so much to agree on there........ minus the racial content.
Does it make a bit of difference if the US sent it's manufacturing to China, India ............or Sweden? or Germany? NO, the point I'm making is still the same.......we like to pat ourselves on the back as good stewards of the environment, but we really sent the garbage and pollution off to other countries.....literally and figuratively. IF the Govt hadn't made it so expensive here and easy to relocate there (wherever there is) then we'd still be making things here. That's even without counting all the Illegals. We've got plenty of white, black and brown and whatever color you'd prefer citizens to do menial jobs. That's why McDonalds, Walmart and Amazon are the biggest employers.
As far as the OP, it just makes me giggle inside everytime there's some claim about how much cleaner WE have gotten as a country with expensive solar and electric options.......and then those pesky wildfires roll around yet again. THIS year it's so thick it's affecting the sunrises and sunsets on the other side of the country. So what was the End Result there? We're not all that much cleaner, imo. We still produce a ton of packaging and outright garbage per person .......likely more than the rest of the planet on average.
I certainly don't blame China or India........ in fact, I'm jealous of their drive to be worldwide manufacturers and providers of goods. WE should be striving to do the same. And forgive me if I wanna laugh at Green New Deal embracing Cali as they send up megatons of carbon yet again. That shit is just plain funny to me......in a sad/funny kinda way.

!. But it's true. Just look at how people are treating Asians since Covid... Chinese virus... kung flu... watch out for the local Chinese take-out, they serve cat... no ticky no laundry... need I go on. And most of the racist fucks can't tell the difference between an Indian, a Sikh, and a Muslim: "they all fucking look alike!" Please don't tell me there isn't a racial element to it when it's all around you.
2. Thank Grandpa Ronnie... but I notice you couldn't help making a comment about illegals (the boogey man of the anti-intelligentsia and the racist - pick one)
3. 3. I'm guessing that increased heat leads to dryer wood and therefore stronger wildfires (she ran callin') but that's just a guess.
4. Kind of hard to strive for what you gave away in the first place... and what would make the US the #1 polluter. Better to move to the service sector and blame the countries that actually manufacture stuff for climate ills
5. CA sends up about 1/2 the CO2 that Texas (biggest emitter) does, and since you admit that most of it is just wildfires...
Just once I'd like you to look shit up before you type.

1. I can't change your mind about the general state of racism in the US. I happen to believe it's better than it was in the past........and that's with the recent divisive identity politics pushed onto everyone. If it weren't, we wouldn't have nearly as many interracial couples and children/grandchildren now.
2. You've got Donnie to blame for everything now. Let Ronnie rest. And we're sorry if approximately 1 out of 10 people in this country are currently here illegally. Who do we see about that? Or shall we all just pick and choose which laws to obey as we see fit?
3. Great tune. Aye, that precious half a degree certainly has made the Earth a tinder box. Not that there's anything people could do to mitigate it.
4. The Govt controls what is or isn't given away. Blame the voters? Or were they not properly informed of exactly what these policies would lead to? Agreed, like Britain before us, we seem to like believing we're clean and above it all, but we're just as pig a pig as everyone else, in many cases worse.
5. Texas has all those aged and decrepit fuel refineries that burn non-stop. What difference does that make? Has Texas portrayed itself as the cleanest state in the union recently?
Just once I'd like to admit some snarky arguments have validity even if you disagree politically.

I just gotta ask............do you really believe that if the entire planet was suddenly transformed into the same shade skin on everyone..........but the Govts and economic situations remained the same, that the US and others wouldn't still play this game of using poor places for cheaper labor?
That's kinda my entire point about it not necessarily about the people themselves.......much less their inherited race.
I'll just repeat myself again....... I'm a nationalist in that I prefer that America comes out on top......and that's including all of my fellow Americans of all races, too.

I'll just repeat myself again....... I'm a nationalist in that I prefer that America comes out on top......and that's including all of my fellow Americans of all races, too. 1. I never said I believed that at all. Please don't put words in my mouth. I tend to think that I express myself quite clearly.
2. Then let's just say that you're not very consistent
3. What you don't seem to realize is that for America to come out on top, they have to play within the global framework... a framework that America created in the first place. You also have to familiarize yourself with the concept of "enlightened self-interest."
That's the problem with nationalist thinking: it's small thinking no matter how grandiose the supposed goal might be.
You ever play Monopoly? Do you like to try to by the dark blue and green properties first because you get the biggest rents?
I hope not, because the orange and red properties are actually the best investment. They have the best ROI and landing frequency rates.
You can hold that whole side of the board and you're going to hit me with some high rents... 2 out of every 5 to 7 circuits of the board. I'll get you paying lower rents to me 3 out of 5 circuits. Do the math and you'll find that I'm probably going to win. It will be a crushing defeat if I also hold the railroads.
You're the nationalist holding one big part of the board and I'm the globalist with property on all sides. I'm going to win.

2. Stat picking? I don't need a study to learn that 100,000 people normally create less garbage and pollution than 1,000,000 people. Just stop there.
4. That's sorta been my point for years...... whether the Govt is evil and corrupt at the behest of the majority of voters or corporations doesn't matter to me. It needs to be as limited as possible to avoid much of the abuse.
5. Wanna get into semantics? Which US state is usually the strictest on pollution and very often is the source for some of the most bizarre 'green' ideas? Ask the auto manufacturers who makes them jump thru the most hoops, for instance?

Also, there's plenty of examples of Cali and it's efforts to be the nation's 'Green Standard'.............
Stein's column is titled " Suddenly, California Hates the Car." Those of us with longer memories will disagree on the "suddenly" part. Back in 1969, the senate up in Sacramento passed a bill banning the internal-combustion engine in new cars starting in 1975. For those who missed the '70s, the worry then was global cooling, which would deliver us into a new Ice Age. Down the road, I expect we'll remember this as just another lovers' quarrel between the dreamy state and the cars it can't live without. ====================================== I couldn't find the piece they had years back about Cali's governmental emissions controls and apparatus .......... how they could have saved tax $Millions, been less intrusive and achieved 'greener' goals by simply buying a new Cadillac for every person in their state with a car older than 10 years. But hey, it makes them feel good to virtue signal non-stop.

Actually, "done right" would mean building a stronger middle class and reducing the power of the 1% over them.
