1. As a percentage of ever dollar you earn.
2. Ridiculous
1. Ridiculous. 2. It may not always be practical, but it's never useless. At least not... 99.9% of the time.
1. Why is that a ridiculous suggestion?
2. We're so well educated – but we're useless Students have lost the ability to do anything practical. The only thing we've mastered is consumption Leonie Veerman Mon 25 Feb 2013 04.21 EST
Record numbers of students have entered higher education in the past 10 years, but despite being the most educated generation in history, it seems that we've grown increasingly ignorant when it comes to basic life skills.

No one pays anywhere near that amount of tax in my country. As for your country, I just assumed someone shot all of the tax collectors.

Basic services in all necessities: Accommodation - Apartments, Houses --- Would this housing be based on need or desire? Would you be OK with your property being nationalized and having a roommate forced upon you simply because you have enough space? Defense - Army, Airforce, Navy, Espionage --- OK Communications - Telephone Network, Landline Sets, limited Mobiles --- I'll tie this into the rest of the "utilities" below... Employment - Employment Seeking, Employment Training --- Are you saying the government needs to provide jobs or just assistance in finding one? Infrastructure - Creation and Maintenance --- Roads, bridges, rail? OK Legal - Law and Order --- So... police and courts? OK Medical - Physical and Mental --- Does "physical include dental? Are you including pharmaceuticals? Education - Primary, Secondary, limited Tertiary --- "Limited" as in just community college (2-year degree) or just "state owned" universities? Public Transport - Buses, Trains --- So... include with "infrastructure" above? OK Power - Electrical, Natural Gas, SolarWater - Tap, limited Rain...Sewage --- Putting utilities in the hands of the government bothers me a bit. That's a lot of power (literally and figuratively) in the hands of the government. Even following a single-payer program could potentially lead to economic issues depending on implementation as some companies might be put out of business. Welfare Payments - Unemployment, Pensions, Rental Support --- Why do you need rental support if you're supplying housing? There's probably more, but that's just off the top of my head. --- Really? More?

So there's a limit to what you'd call reasonable expectation?
The IRS is a pretty large agency. And they raise more revenues than the planet has seen before..........still not enough for DC, though

1. Government housing, specifically built to house lower income individual and families.
Therefore, there are different sizes in accommodation available.
2. Okay.
3. Why not?
Federal and states governments have and continue to provide such services, directly through government agencies and indirectly through government-affiliated agencies.
4. Dental and limited pharmaceuticals included.
5. Limited tertiary refers to who might be eligible. Children of past and present military personnel and other special cases to be determined the authorities.
6. I have no problem with the government providing basic services at basic rates.
Other businesses can compete for those looking for more than just basic products and services.
7. Low income individuals and families may require assistance if they need to rent privately.
There may not be any or suitable government housing available in their area.
8. It wouldn't surprise me if there's more.

1. In this country there is. 2. There was once a DOCTOR WHO serial set on the planet Pluto, in the distant future. It was a satire on the British taxation system of the time. The ultimate villain was a little ugly alien called, "the Collector"... I think he worked for the IRS.

1. What services perform this function?
2. Describe "basic." Do you mean men with pitchforks dragging you to a room where some dude passes sentence at gunpoint?
3. You want to FORCE people to behave a certain way?
4. Expand TSA? You realize that our biggest borders are airports, right?
5. What if no one turns on that channel or listens to the advice? If your mom said, "Stop climbing that old tree! You might fall and hurt yourself" and then you didn't listen, fell and broke your arm, are you saying it would be OK for mom to then just let you live with a broken arm simply because you didn't listen?
5. What services perform this function?
1. 50 separate states were supposed to provide the trial and error experimentation to bring about better services and approaches.
2. Obviously
3. No. The force comes in later when they can't abide by some very minimal expectations.
4. Along with the ports, they're also the biggest sources of the next great threat.
5. F 'em. How is that any different than all of the other education provided for 'free'.....yet ignored and wasted? And if Mom is fine with leaving me with a broken arm, of what concern is that of yours? (where's the broken arm waving emoji?)
6. It's the lack of Govt that serves to provide that function. Govt just seems to infringe on it again and again.

1. Well, some us feel that anything more than 20% is beyond ridiculousness, as well.
2. 1 for you, 19 for me. Do Aussies get knighted for paying massive amounts in taxes, too? Or just proper Brits?

1. I don't recall seeing that in the Constitution. However, we can see that many states have found better ways of doing things while other states refuse to implement them. Nobody seems to like purple.
2. Kinda thought so

6. I even think electricity and internet might qualify as basic requirements. But Public Service has already forced everyone to contribute to them as the Middle Men (per Govt mandate?)
3. Do those caps apply to property taxes and regulatory costs, as well? Have you seen any evidence that rent control helps any area keep rental prices in check? (outside of the lucky few, of course) So it'd need to be rent control for ALL in order to be effective? Cabrini-Green for everyone?
