As state readies gas chamber, Jewish groups 'horrified'When Janice Friebaum of the Phoenix Holocaust Association learned that Arizona reportedly refurbished its gas chamber for executions, she decided she had to speak out. Purchase of pesticide used at Auschwitz »
=====================================
Were they horrified the prison likely has showers, too?
I heard John Oliver's none to pleased with the lack of air-conditioning for all.

Understandable. In fact, many Jewish groups have been protesting the use of gas chambers for executions for decades. It's one of the reasons they aren't really used anymore. I'm not sure that's the most racist or insensitive thing you've ever said, but I'll bet it's in the top 5.
Since the issue has been news for years and years, I'm not sure why you care about John Oliver mentioning it... except that maybe you're worried that something might now actually get done. We all know that you're all about punishment.
Not sure where you came up with that "30 million" figure but let's move on... About 600 people die in the US every year from excessive heat, which is nearly 8 times the number that die from tornadoes. Every year, when the heat index rises, the news media is filled with PSAs encouraging susceptible groups to get to a place that is air conditioned or at least to open windows etc to create better airflow and so on. Of course, since the most susceptible group is the elderly, you don't give a fuck because they're going to die soon anyway, right? And of course you'll want to remind me that our species survived for millennia without AC while completely disregarding biological evolution and adaptation as well as historical evidence that our ancestors were always coming up with new and inventive ways of keeping cool. I'll be honest. I've never used the AC in my apartment. It's not because it doesn't get hot here. It sure does. I just happen to prefer using a fan. At school, we have AC. If it weren't working we have windows and fans to keep the classrooms somewhat comfortable. Were I to be forced to live every day in heat in excess of 140 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit (60 to 65 degrees Celsius), I would consider that to be cruel and unusual punishment. So would you... I think. Maybe YOU would consider your just reward for failing to appear in traffic court.

Can we get a figure on how many Jews do care and don't? Why would it be we're only hearing from the one side?
Now you're claiming I'm anti-Semitic?
That's IT exactly, promo.......... prison is supposed to be a form of punishment. It's SUPPOSED to be an uncomfortable situation. IF the people in them are actually better treated and more comfortable in them than out........why would they ever stop committing crimes?
I took a stab at a percentage of the entire US that does not have AC. And then rounded down......more than 10% do not, thus 30 Million.
600 WHOLE people??? How is this not FRONT PAGE NEWS!? And you've already made my argument for me....... they are susceptible types normally succumbing to changes in the temp. That will be all of us some day.....we won't be able to cope with too many changes and our bodies will just expire. But you're gonna make it sound like I'm sentencing people to being tortuously locked in a hot car in the Arizona sun?....with no access to water?
Biological evolution? It's going in the wrong direction, imo The 76+ genders are really gonna struggle in the future is my bold prediction.
Dude, I'm a bigger pussy than you. I got no problem admitting it. When it gets above 73?...... I'm done. I seal up the windows and LEAVE the AC on until that 'heatwave' passes. But the thing is THAT's something that I view as a luxury that I've earned since I'm the one paying the higher bill.
And you can't for a moment believe I'd be OK with 140 Degrees as punishment for anyone. Though, I would snarkily point out that a lot of people get paid pretty good money to work in many antiquated paper mills to this day in terribly hot environments. I have to wonder if they're viewed as being 'grandfathered' in by OSHA and other Govt agencies? Can you find out how many of that 600 a year dying from heat exposure are prisoners? I think I'd have heard about this years ago is it was a good portion of them.

1. Why do you need numbers? Is there some magic threshold for Jews being opposed to gas chambers?
2. Dude, you made a joke about Jews and showers after posting about gas chambers. Did you think you were just being funny and clever?
3. Spoken like a true Trumpanzee wiping his ass with the US Constitution... again
4. OK fine
5. That's exactly what you're sentencing them to. Duh!
6. And there you go trying to take the conversation off to a different topic. FAIL
7. You didn't "earn" it. You purchased it. When you went to the store or the contractor were you forced to fill out a questionnaire and submit it for review so that someone else could make a determination about whether or not you MERITED an air conditioner? No. Therefore you didn't earn it. It wasn't a prize.
8. I don't have a breakdown on how many of the 600 deaths per year are prisoners. Sorry. And even if you had heard about it before, I'm pretty sure that you would have disregarded it anyway as you seem to think that anyone who commits any crime worthy of jail or prison is pretty much sub-human.

I earned the money to pay for the AC and the utility bills.
Silly me for not just going on the dole years ago

Your wife makes what... 2 to 3 times your salary?
I think you're on her dole.
I know. I know. You pay your equal share of everything. Your wife must have quite a sizable savings account.

She actually does........even with the higher degree of spending, vacationing, etc.
Though, if she were to pass......... I'd be set up for the rest of my life, no problem.
One year awhile back it may have even been closer to 8-10 times my income.

There should be nothing off limits when it comes to joking. This nonsense of cancel culture and insisting on censoring has gotten completely out of control.
I've stated many times in the past that prison should be a form of punishment that people do not aspire to return to......... but I've never endorsed anything resembling a Dachau or gulag.

1. It's not about cancel culture, Abs. It's about being respectful. You're not being canceled. You're just being called an asshole.
2. And yet there's clear evidence that prisoners are being made to live in horrible conditions. If you had bothered to watch Oliver's piece, you would have seen the head of the correctional officer's union liken the prisons in question to concentration camps. He literally used those words.

We built back in 95.....had a very reasonable mortgage........made out pretty well on the sale in 2016.........and have a few years to go on the newer, larger home.
I've even gone against the 'best advice' of having no more than 28-30% of my own income going towards my shelter costs/mortgage....... but as I don't have any other costly outside vices, I've always considered it a trade off and risk worth taking.

1. Some people don't like certain comedians. Taste is awfully subjective........sorta like politics. Like Merh thinking Colbert and the rest of Late Nite are so hilarious......and I just don't find it funny at all anymore.
2. I had a cousin that was in federal/military prison and told me about the poor conditions they endured until that ancient structure was finally abandoned. But the AC wasn't ever his biggest complaint......it was the lack of personal safety from the rest of the population. The labor he chose to offer up for pennies on the dollar he viewed as a respite, too. (Though I find much of that stuff highly questionable myself) I've made some pretty radical suggestions of handling prison populations over the years, too...... Not sure a Union member would ever approve of many of those either.

You didn't "go against advice." You were forced to pay a larger percentage. That's probably why you gave up pizza and newspaper delivery to become the overnight guy at Kinko's or whatever.

1. Yeah. Making fun of the genocide of 6,000,000 people is always hilarious to someone.

How do you mean?
I worked and saved up first, bought the lot and paid on that for awhile, built ONLY after I was sure I had more than 20% down so I wouldn't be required to carry the additional PMI........ and the Interest Rates have been near historic lows for quite some time.
I gave up those more stressful jobs for simple indoor work and shorter work weeks because I had pretty much achieved my main goal of becoming a homeowner with a relatively low payment.
I think our original loan was less than $80,000 for a home that was worth much more than that once completed. One could purchase an awful lotta home in this area compared to some much higher cost of living locales back then. It's only recently the market has really heated up and driven prices up beyond expectations. Most sellers here now are getting more than asking price and multiple bidders.

I was making fun of the comparisons between innocent Jews slaughtered.......and criminally tried and convicted murderers that receive the death penalty (usually after years of appeals) I realize people like Toy Cannon are still fervently against the death penalty no matter the manner of crime committed. I disagree with that stance.
I really didn't have much of a problem with Joe's methods. Pink uniforms? Nutra-loaf? Tents? As long as all prisoners faced the same punishments......what's the issue?

My beef is about you acting like anyone can have your "success."
Of course, maybe they could if they were willing to move to your neck of the woods, but then you'd start saying shit like, "There goes the neighborhood...."
