My beef is about you acting like anyone can have your "success."
Of course, maybe they could if they were willing to move to your neck of the woods, but then you'd start saying shit like, "There goes the neighborhood...."
Dude........assuming just about anyone is an able bodied person with a semi-functioning brain (like mine?) and can simply hold down a job and even get themselves a roommate or spouse who can do the same...........WHY can't many, if not most, people do the same? Did I come up with a magic formula? Has it been locked away and kept a secret from everyone else?
I have said similar things to that.........but not about people who were just looking to work hard enough and improve their lots in life.
You tell me, though....... I get the impression that in China, no matter the neighborhood, there's a sense of a minimum standard for behavior and expectations? People there may be much, much poorer than people here........but that doesn't mean they allow that to become their excuse for harming their neighbors or committing crimes?

1. Location, location, location... and racism
2. Riiiight
3. 90% of Chinese own their homes (such as it is here) while only 65% of Americans own their own homes. There are more cars on the road here than the US. "Poor" is a relative term. Of course, parents spend their life-savings to give these things to their children and the children in turn then take care of their parents.
The "minimum standard of behavior and expectations" are to treat each other with respect until disrespected... sort of a Golden Rule type thing.
The crime rates in China are very, very low.

Wow! What glaring percentage.
I've been thinking for a little while now that Americans are painting themselves into a corner when it comes to being lifelong renters.

what a timely headline...........
U.S. National Review Massachusetts Public School District Encourages Students to Report Peers, Teachers for ‘Bias’ Violations
Leaders of a Massachusetts public school system are encouraging students and staff to file complaints against one another for telling rude jokes or discriminating.

And as soon as they convince the kids to report on their parents, George Orwell will be turning in his grave.

Instead of Lenin........they should have put Orwell in a glass coffin for all to see and remember.

you could have gone with that Monty Python's chosen form of death penalty........ if the Censors/Admins would allow it
It's kind of amazing how much of their satirical humor has now become so called accepted thinking/policies

In my current situation, I don't mind renting, but were I to return, I'd prefer to own.

You figure Orwell is still on their required reading list?
What advice in that regard have you passed along to your own offspring?
I can see where, in certain circumstances, renting is easier and less permanent. But for long term stability/finances? It still seems the much safer bet.

1. Sure?
2. Metaphorically?
3. Understandable........ I've been noticing the shyte-ton of apartment complexes/rental units being built in this area.......and the Rent? +$1100/month and higher. I'm really wondering where these people are coming from and how it makes sense to them?
