I am moving.
Smack in the start my Truck decided it needed some love so the $3700 I got from my IRA to pay for moving expenses?
Truck ate $2500.

Sorry bout that breakdown...........May I suggest a longterm approach to vehicles in your future? Apartment living. They were remodeling, but stopped. New owners took over. Now they have returned to remodeling so I have to be out by August 1. Yeah, the issue popped up out of the blue in the middle.of moving. My mechanic always goes to Mexico for Memorial Day so I was forced to other mechanics. I've used the mobile Your Mechanic a few times & needed to take my kid to the doctor.the next day so I had them come out on Memorial day. That one said thermostat-$250. Next day driving to my kid's place it overheated again. Dealer. 4 days of no car, sensor, brake light out, oil leak, windshield washer replaced, 2 power steering hoses-$1200. This was a cab ride home & back to pick up. 4 days later overheating again, but it was hot so I put it to that, but the next day it did it again & the brake light & the battery light came on. Luckily my Mechanic answered so we arranged for Monday. It was so bad driving home, I drove it to my mechanic. Another cab with my sister. Radiator(original) plus a sensor $500. Car lurched to a stop when he tried to return it. Original alternator, fix the oil pump gasket $500. I did look into obtaining a different vehicle, but I understand now I not the best time for new or used cars. |

Relying on others, especially.
Good luck with the moving.........but I think as a Retirement Gift to yourself, you should just treat yourself to a new/nearly new Toyota or Honda and not have to worry about a thing for several years.
The thing with the Repairs these days, there's nothing cheap anymore. Shop rates are high and the parts aren't much better.

That's actually been a very funny thing to me for years now. You're old enough to remember that first round of Buy American back in the 70s and 80s, right? While the Big 3 turned out complete crap
Then they said it wasn't possible to build cars in the US.......... until the Japanese and others built plants right here in the US and paid very competitively.........while GM moved to Canada and Ford shifted down to Mexico. Honda and Toyota were playing the long game.........and a couple 'American' brands were just working their way towards the NEXT bail out.
