Apartment living. I did look into obtaining a different vehicle, but I understand now I not the best time for new or used cars.
2 things I never wanna go thru again.
Relying on others, especially.
Good luck with the moving.........but I think as a Retirement Gift to yourself, you should just treat yourself to a new/nearly new Toyota or Honda and not have to worry about a thing for several years.
The thing with the Repairs these days, there's nothing cheap anymore. Shop rates are high and the parts aren't much better.
My credit is on the low side at the moment, just around 640. I was going to clean it up, pay down the credit cards now I have better cash flow, plus I understand there is a chip shortage affecting the availability of new cars & with the pandemic, people weren't out & about so they have been keeping their cars leading to a used car shortage as well. So I was thinking next year or so. I have always done tons of research so I have always had an idea of what cars I want, but right now that's a blank. The kid loves the Prius. I favor Dodge & Nissan. I don't know if a Prius is necessary, though. Early research suggests one needs to drive them a minimum to keep the battery in shape so my little old lady trips to the grocery store may be a bad thing. Mitsubishi made the D50 so that's a possibility. Haven't even started looking at them.

But make sure that Toyota or Honda was manufactured in the US!
America First, right?
Back when the hubby was alive & we did our car buying, my job was to research the best options. Buy the Consumer reports car issue to compare. Research online... So I haven't even started that process.

Fingers crossed you can limp along without getting soaked again.
If it's a Prius.......... maybe consider the Prius-C hatchback? I just sold mine to a friend's wife. I got over 45-50 MPG the entire time, they're cheaper than the larger and full blown Prius model and very trustworthy. They stopped making the C recently, but I got over 25,000 trouble free miles in 6 years, no problem.
I have nothing bad to say about Nissan......but I have to wonder about your two choices there? No matter what Consumer Reports says, they are both the 3rd Place finishers in their respective groups and have been for decades, American or Japanese manufacturers. If I was forced to choose, it'd definitely be a Nissan over a Dodge product, though.
Good luck in that quest

The overheating issue is one thing. The alternator & the radiator were original meaning they were 21 yrs old. cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/rankingsI have had luck with Dodge & Nissan (& Mitsubishi) Although I see most stolen cars Ford F-150 (2006): 38,938 Honda Civic (2000): 33,220 Chevrolet Silverado (2004): 32,583 Honda Accord (1997): 30,745 Toyota Camry (2007): 15,656 Nissan Altima (2015): 13,355 Toyota Corolla (2018): 12,137 Dodge Ram (2001): 11,292 GMC Sierra (2018): 11,164 Honda CR-V (2001): 10,094 Right after we got the D50(Dodge made by Mitsubishi), there was a report about the Toyotas getting broken into using a pencil. Something about the company cutting corners.

No doubt you've been lucky. Do you feel lucky? well, do ya....punk?
That's an odd thing to consider......what thieves are stealing most?
here's a kinda whacky dude........but he's had a ton of experience fixing cars.........why not take their advice? What cars they see the least of in need of repairs?
