That "crazy little $Billionaire" was a US naval officer who graduated from the USNA. He was an Eagle Scout and later, a Distinguished Eagle Scout Award winner. He became a billionaire through hard work, determination, and hiring the right people for the right jobs... not by borrowing millions from his dad. He mounted his own privately-funded rescue mission to get his employees out of Iran while Carter negotiated for 444 days.
Not all billionaires are created equal. Some of them actually love their country more than their money.
I certainly think that the US would be in a much better situation now, had we had Ross at the helm for 8 years during the 90's.
All of that is true. He should have been a shoe in over both Bush and Clinton........so what did the MSM do to him? or was it the CIA/FBI/DoJ? or both?
I'm of the opinion that Trump loves the US a heckuva lot more than most of the GOP.....and ALL of the Dems. This is what keeps getting ignored.....rather than focusing on his shitty tweeting habits. Much of what people were cheering for was all of the actual America FIRST things he was pushing. But we've seen what the Establishment and MSM favors over such ideas.
We're agreed on that. We'd at least be in a better Debt situation, imo. But debt no longer matters either, right? Just like laws, borders, rights, etc etc

1. The MSM didn't know what to do with him so they treated him like a red M&M in a bowlful of green M&Ms and tossed him in the garbage bin.
2. I'm not sure that Trump loves the US any more than any other politician, but he sure loved the idea of how being president could potentially further his business plans. He never pushed for "America First." He pushed for "What can I get from America first, then second, then third...."
3. The debt matters... just not the way you think it does, nor is immediately fixing it going to bring about any immediate rejuvenation. Laws matter... real, sensible laws, not the shitshow of "how can we fuck over people we don't like" laws we have today. Borders matter, but walls aren't the only or even best solution. Rights are important as long as you're willing to use them responsibly. You believe in responsibility, don't you?

1. They believe in Career Politicians only........especially those that lean Left
2. Most of his supporters have no problem if he benefited from that approach........so long as the US did, too. And it did. Just the application of immigration laws alone did wonders for the number of people showing up to the border AND more importantly the Unemployment numbers. Douches like Ron Johnson and Paul Ryan insisting that we need illegals is blatantly insane.
3. I believe in being responsible for ME and the family that I create. Golden Rule, et etc I expect all laws to be enforced equally upon all US citizens. I also favor less laws/regulations and less police/govt involvement in peoples' everyday lives. That Debt is going to rape generations to come.

Laws: but they aren't
Less police involvement: defund them
Debt: Probably not
with over 20 million Illegals in the US......... likely more now......... any enforcement of those laws is bound to lead to lower unemployment, imo
I don't see how anyone would even want to dispute that? The same goes for the Supply/Demand of homes/apartments and other various and finite resources. I don't doubt that campus intellectuals can invent all sorts of studies and scenarios that argue black is white and vicey-versey, though. They've been living in a dreamland for so long, they don't even know what reality is anymore. Sorta like our career politicians.
3. Hippies want others to pay for it all.......... Trumpies seem to want to stop paying for all those Hippies
Though, I have repeatedly asked WHERE did all of the anti-War hippies of the 60s and 70s go to? Canada? Cuz the way the MIC in the US just rolls on year after year tends to make me believe it's not even a point of discussion anymore.
Less police: Limit the reasons to even respond to people and their daily issues. And please, don't plan on spending that 'saved' taxmoney on other things. Just allow people to keep more of their own incomes.

Trumpanzees want to stop paying for the hippies because they want it all for themselves, was my point
Again, not fewer police, but fewer, more directed responsibilities.
If people keep more of their incomes, then they'll have to do with less of what they have come to expect. They'll have worse infrastructure than they have now. They'll have worse schools than they have now. They'll have more crime than they have now. They'll have property destruction than they have now. There will be fewer jobs than there are now which means even less taxes being collected meaning the afore-mentioned getting even worse.
This is where you tell me about privatization and I ask you if you think a private company won't eat up the same or even more of the cash you would have paid in taxes.

I disagree as you've jumped on the things that are agreeable to me for the most part. I can't imagine those things account for the vast majority of govt spending/waste.
If we sat down and took a marker to all of the things we agreed the govt shouldn't even be doing at present, I think there'd be a sizable chunk taken out of spending......and some of those savings could then be spent on better schools or roads. There's too many irons in the fire.

I was thinking more local than federal, but federal money does occasionally make it to local levels... their rules sure do.
There is a ton of waste, but I don't think you're ever going to balance the budget - no matter how much you trim - without addressing the tax code

Absolutely......... a couple of fellas like us could come up with a reasonable level and method of taxation, while preserving the things that are absolutely necessary to keep.........while stripping down the govt to it's bare bones functions. I'd even be OK with raising taxes on EVERYONE in order to pay off Debt, stabilize the spending and set up some desired future funding.
I've even stated that if UHC was something people truly wanted, then they should vote/agree on it.........start setting the money aside in an interest earning account and then years from now once it's reached a large enough sustainable sum......... it could then be a self-perpetuating thing.
But you and I also know that most people (not even counting me) would be willing to sign onto that kind of practical and responsible thing. Americans want all their cures in pill form......and they want others to pay for it always.

I've been involved in the creation of "perpetually replenishing trusts" (to create scholarships) and I can tell you that decades or centuries would be needed to create a self-replenishing UHC fund. We had to put approximately $100,000 into a trust just to provide an annual scholarship of $2,500 back in the 90's/early noughties and within a couple years we had to increase it to $150,000 just to keep up with inflation and market fluctuations. According to friends back home, that fund is now around $500,000 just to maintain an annual scholarship payment of $2,500.
How long do you think it would take to build a minimum deposit of $600,000,000,000,000?

How long did it take the US to do the opposite?.......and create a Debt that accrues interest in the $amount it currently does? We're coming up on almost $500 Billion at this point.
How much UHC could be paid for with that Interest right now if it wasn't being used to just service the debt?
I gotta figure your scholarships really got screwed as the Govt involvement allowed for so much 'free' money to be handed out, thus driving up the cost of that same education.

Are we talking about the debt in general? Student loans? UHC?

I was kinda blending them all in together.............. IIRC, either student loans or car loans are the next massive debt issue facing the majority of Americans.
I'm also just pointing out how, like most people, they seem to find money to waste on a ton of things........but the things they claim are absolutely necessary and prudent? "Well, money's tight right now."
Simple little things........ I watch the average smoker toss about $10/day away.......but if the same person has kids, do they all bother getting a term life insurance policy? Nope, can't afford it.

And "term" is waaaaaay cheaper than "whole"
I get your point... but the concept of "freedom" dictates that I can't give a fuck about how anyone else spends their money, doesn't it?

OMG, how often have I had that discussion with people with kids. And with little results.
Does it necessarily remove our freedom to 'Tsk, tsk, tsk"? or just apathetically watch them do self-damage? (That's not mentioning the argument over EBT/Welfare being their money)
I like to think that I've found a happy median.......where IF someone asks my advice, I freely give it. If they ignore that advice, I'm no longer obligated in any way to feel any sympathy for them whatsoever.

1. Buy term, invest the difference, retire with a nest egg, and die leaving an inheritance.
2. When your boss pays you, is it your money or still his/hers? Did I just open the door for an, "If we're the boss...." tangent?
3. What if they take your advice and it was bad?

Feel free to start a web site educating the masses on how to get by on chicken scratchings. Make the information free and just make money from ads. Look at that! You can make money by teaching people how to bootstrap!
