The police are called.
Student hides in bathroom, refuses to come out and fires at police officers injuring one.
Police fire back, killing the student.
Time to protest, riot, and loot!
Wait.
No one is doing that?
Fucking rookies.

A fellow student in my year once brought a firearm to school with him. I believe it was an air rifle, although I don't know how many people could tell just from looking at it. He lent out of the window of the common room and pointed it at younger students who were passing by... the police were called.

When the police arrived, did he comply with their orders or did he take a shot at them. I'm guessing that even in Oz, the latter option would have proven bad for the kid.

No one died... or was even arrested as far as I recall. However, I expect he got a stern talking to from the police, the school principle, his parents and so forth.

Did he become a crazed killer later in life?

in the past, most people weren't pre-groomed to be nearly as hysterical whenever they just view a gun
One begets the other, imo

If you're looking for a few more lesser known recommendations....... give Tyrannosaur and Jyndabyne a try, too
these both appealed to my more tender side.

You've captured my interest. I'll keep an eye out for it on Aussie TV... hopefully the SBS international film channel.

Did he become a crazed killer later in life? Not that I'm aware of. I'm sure I'd have recognized his name if it were associated with a violent crime that was reported on TV.

I don't think I'd look twice if I saw a police officer walking down the street with a pistol on their hip... if they were actually carrying one, that might be worth a second glance. Of course, if I saw a civilian doing the same, it'd be a very different matter. However, I'm used to Australian culture, society and laws, not American ones.

That's just it, Mac....... I've had Americans ask me why I wouldn't immediately lose my shit if I saw someone open carrying?
My reply was "Cuz I'd figure they were a legal gun owner."
It's the criminals, who try to hide their weapons until use, that should worry them.
I also have a concealed carry, FYI

Open carry doesn't bother me... except in a school.

I also have a concealed carry, FYI In Australia, whether someone is open-carrying or concealing a firearm, it's a problem... If I visited America and encountered someone open carrying, I'd probably find it very confronting. However, that doesn't mean I'd necessarily freak out or "lose my shit" over it.

It's only as we get older and become aware of other people raised in other environments that we might think about it more.
