I was given percodan for a wisdom tooth. Took me awhile to figure out it was the percodan making it feel like I was under 10 feet of water.

And the problem people can not do without those substances. They want to avoid reality as much as possible.

It's also a learned response.

We've seen the teen flicks where all the kids are trying to score booze or drugs because that is "adult fun" & teens want to be adults. So they are trained to believe that getting stupid on substances is fun. 

First Kiss concert I went to some kid in the row behind & to my right. Friends were "come on, Kiss is onstage!" But the kid sat there "I don't feel good".

Seeing Alice once. Before the show I had to step over puke to get into the bathroom before the concert started. 

I didn't see the point in paying more than the cost of a record to see a band live, but be so fucked up on drugs &/or alcohol I couldn't remember having fun.  Seemed really stupid.

But hey, that is what they learn is a good time.

Best line I saw on the subject was people drink to forget their problems, but the problems are still there when they sober up so why?

A nurse has been charged with abuse and mayhem after she allegedly amputated a man's foot without permission, authorities said.
A Wisconsin nurse has been charged with two felony counts after she allegedly cut off a dying patient's foot without his permission or a doctor's order, authorities said.

Mary K. Brown, 38, faces one charge of mayhem and one count of physical abuse of an elder person by intentionally causing great bodily harm, according to a criminal complaint filed last week by Pierce County prosecutors.

“Brown had no doctor’s order to conduct an amputation. She stated that she did not have any authorization to remove VICTIM’s foot. Brown did not have VICTIM’s permission to amputate his foot. Administrators of the nursing home agreed that it was outside of the scope of Brown’s practice to conduct such a procedure and a doctor’s order was necessary prior to any amputation," the complaint said.

The unnamed, 62-year-old patient had been admitted in March to Spring Valley Health and Rehab Center with severe frostbite on both feet after falling at home during a heat outage, authorities said.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department was notified in June after the medical examiner noticed the deceased patient's foot was not attached to his leg, "but was rather lying beside him," complaint said.

Nurse Brown had amputated the patient's foot on May 27, she and fellow caregivers said during a subsequent investigation, the complaint said. Brown acknowledged using surgical tape scissors to remove a piece of skin and tendons that were holding the necrotic foot to his leg, prosecutors said.

The foot was smelling and the patient was near death, nurses told authorities. Brown said she removed the foot out of compassion and for the comfort of the patient, the complaint said.

Some of the interviewed nurses said they were disturbed by Brown's actions and relayed that to management. Some nurses also said Brown spoke of her family's taxidermy business and that Brown said she wanted to preserve the foot and display it with a sign saying "wear your boots, kids," according to the complaint.

A nursing home administrator told investigators that Brown did not have permission to remove the man's foot, but that it seemed she had done so for the dignity and comfort of the patient, according to the complaint.

Brown's first court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 6. The Pierce County District Attorney's office did not respond to emailed questions Tuesday from Inside Edition Digital seeking additional information.

Brown is no longer employed by the facility, the center said in a statement.

“We have and will continue to fully cooperate with the investigation into this matter. The person identified is not employed with our community," the statement said.

Just to be blunt........what do you think hospice is for? Did you want mom to be there for months and years? Or pass as quickly as possible?

I have a little insight into assisted care, as well. It's a great example of laws/regulations getting passed with the best of intentions.......and then there's the reality of our world. YOU wanna do that job? I don't. And the Govt's answer to understaffing and abuse? $Fines. So either the place goes out of business, or it's making so much it opts to just pay the fines.............because people are not flocking to that industry. There are nowhere near enough volunteers either. Once again, there's the umbrella millions are headed towards in the not too distant future.......and that outlook is pretty bleak, imo

My dad lived on home hospice for months. There was a problem in San Diego with that. Once a patient is moved to hospice they are supposed to die within a year. Too many here weren't. 

I would rather we have universal HMOs.
Where the doctors are paid for their patients staying healthy.

it's a bizarro Catch-22..........  people aren't happy with hospice if people die right away.........or if people don't die right away.

So you want the doctors held responsible for the health of their patients? when it's the patient that's most responsible for their own health? This is where we part company on such issues.......... I understand WHY they just start writing prescriptions instead of trying too hard to get people to change their ways.

Dozens of sheep have been eerily walking around in a circle for 12 days straight in northern China’s Inner Mongolia region.

The bizarre behavior, captured on surveillance video, shows the large flock continuously marching clockwise in a nearly perfect circle on a farm.

Some other sheep can be seen watching from outside the rotation while others at times stand motionless in the center.

Video of the strange scene was tweeted Wednesday by Chinese state-run outlet People’s Daily, which reported the sheep are perfectly healthy and the cause of the behavior remains a mystery.

The sheep owner, identified as Ms. Miao, claimed the spectacle began with a few sheep before the whole flock joined in, Metro reported. Although there are 34 sheep pens at the farm, only the sheep in one of the pens — number 13 — have been acting this way

They’ve been on the move since Nov. 4. It’s unclear whether they stop to eat or drink.

Some have speculated the sheep’s behavior could be caused by a bacterial disease called Listeriosis — also known as “circling disease.”

“Initially, affected animals are anorectic, depressed, and disoriented. They may propel themselves into corners, lean against stationary objects, or circle toward the affected side,” according to the Merck Manual.

Outbreaks typically occur as a result of spoiled or low-quality silage, according to the Merck Manual. In sheep and goats, however, death usually occurs within 24 to 48 hours after symptoms are observed.

Disease might be a cause, but they would all be dead by now if that was it.
