Someone I know has a brother in his late 50s who just received his sentence. You tell me............

Operating while Under the Influence - 5th Offense / Drive Under Influence (F)
Possession of Cocaine / Coca (M)
Possession of THC / Marijuana (M)
Maintain Drug Trafficking Place / Dangerous Drugs (F)

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Dangerous Drugs (F)

After all those charges were levied, the defendant then fled the country for over a year, so add bail jumping to those charges.

The sentence? 1 year.

Someone remind me WHY we even bother anymore?        Were they all out of sternly worded letters?

One it's face, it seems outrageous... but I can't help the feeling that there's something else going on here that hasn't been presented.

How much pot and coke?

Is he going to turn state's evidence against bigger fish?

He's in his late 50's. Does he have a medical condition? Is he going to die or simply become bedridden soon?

I did leave out one personal feature.........while absconding to another country, he did somehow manage to lose half a leg.

So, no doubt his prison time might be more inconvenient and troublesome for the authorities involved.

You seem to be giving the impression that people are unable to locate substances all on their own without an actual bartender/dealer involved?

From my own observations, from about the age of 10 or so, that is just not the case.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A South Carolina prisoner was indicted Tuesday, April 19, 2022 after making threatening statements against President Joe Biden and other federal officials.



Eric Rome is currently incarcerated in the Kirkland Correctional Institution on armed robbery charges. Tuesday’s indictment said Rome made multiple threats starting in 2020 until March of 2022 by mailing letters or leaving voicemail while in prison. Rome was previously convicted of threatening President Barack Obama in 2015.



In his statements, Rome says he is a member of the Aryan Brotherhood of South Carolina and the Greenville, South Carolina Proud Boys.



On July 13, 2020, Rome is indicted with sending a letter to the United States Probation Office aimed at his supervising probation officer, “Upon my release I intend to arm myself and enter your offices in order to shoot as many agents as I can until I myself am gunned down.”

On June 28, 2021 Rome left a voicemail with the department, “I’ve got an escape plan and my intention is to escape and kill Kamala Harris the Vice President.”



On June 30, 2021 the indictment says Rome called the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) and left a voicemail saying, “I’ve an escape attempt planned to get out of this prison, which shouldn’t be hard because it’s done in SCDC all the time, and carry out a sniper attack on Joe Biden and take his life.”



On July 1, 2021 the indictment says he mailed a letter from the Lieber Correctional Institution to the United States Supreme Court. In it he claims there is a lethal dose of anthrax in the letter and , “Its [sic] my sincere hope that is kills one or more of you.”



On February 8, 2022 a letter was mailed by Rome from the Broad River Correctional Institution to the Mark. O. Hatfield United States Courthouse in Portland, Oregon. The indictment says he wrote, “This letter contains weapons grade anthrax. Your [sic] as good as dead having opened this.”

On March 14, 2022 Rome sent a letter to the United States District Court in Columbia directed to a district judge and a magistrate judge, “We, the Aryan Brotherhood, are going to kill you both.”

A California man who kidnapped 26 children on a school bus in 1976 was recommended for parole.

Frederick Newhall Woods was one of three gunmen who hijacked a school bus with 26 kids and their bus driver in Chowchilla, California, in 1976. The men transferred the driver and children to vans and drove them 12 hours before they were buried alive in an underground truck trailer, CBS News reported.

It is considered the biggest kidnapping in U.S. history.

Woods had attempted to earn parole 17 times since his conviction, and was granted a recommendation by a panel of two commissioners during his 18th attempt this year. The full parole board, the board's legal division and Gov. Gavin Newsom still need to approve the recommendation.

Woods and the two other kidnappers, James and Richard Schoenfeld, had wanted $5 million in ransom during the kidnapping. The driver and some older children, however, managed to escape by digging out of the trailer while their captors slept.

'NIGHTMARE IN CHOWCHILLA': NOTORIOUS 1976 SCHOOL BUS KIDNAPPING REVISITED

The children and driver did not suffer from life-threatening injuries but reported psychological harm following the incident.

"I'm 50 years old, and I can have an anxiety attack over getting in the car with my husband," survivor Jennifer Brown Hyde told Fox News senior correspondent and "Nightmare in Chowchilla" host Claudia Cowan earlier this year.

Woods and the two other men were arrested about two weeks later and sentenced to life without parole. An appeals court later overturned the decision and made the men eligible for parole.

Richard Schoenfeld was paroled in 2012 and James Schoenfeld in 2015.

Woods read an apology for the mass kidnappings Friday.

"I've had empathy for the victims which I didn't have then," he said, according to CBS News. "I've had a character change since then."

"I was 24 years old," he added. "Now I fully understand the terror and trauma I caused. I fully take responsibility for this heinous act."
