Texas GOP Rep. blames rise in mass shootings on 'overuse of these dang smartphones'
The congressman made the comments following the emotional testimonies of multiple gun violence survivors and their families.

U.S. Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Texas) is rejecting calls to pass stricter gun laws and is instead blaming the use of smartphones for a rise in mass shootings. During a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing on gun violence Wednesday, Fallon told members of Congress that guns were around long before mass shootings became disturbingly commonplace in the U.S.


"The truth is that guns have always been readily available in this country," Fallon said. "But mass shootings and in particular mass shootings of schools are nonexistent or at least extremely rare until they became a grisly recent phenomenon. So what's changed in the last 50 years?"

The Republican congressman then proceeded to give his own theory. "There's been a noticeable breakdown of the family. There's been an erosion of faith and there's been a seismic drop in social interactions in large measure due to the overuse of these dang smartphones, and the proliferation of social media, which is probably better described as anti-social media," Fallon said while holding up his own phone.

Fallon claimed passing gun laws doesn't work and listed out what he called "real solutions."

"We must harden our schools with controlled access and single point-of-entry with a tiered entry procedure," he said. "The main office should be located directly by the front door, which is single-access entry. Classroom doors should automatically shut and lock like hotel rooms do."

The congressman also called for school teachers and volunteers to be trained and armed through school marshal programs, increasing the number of school resource officers on campuses, adding more cameras to schools, and training rapid response teams to address threats.

I have made up my mind..... they're potential humans. I still don't have a problem killing them, though. The tax implications is just one more reason our Govt is beyond retarded and inconsistent.

The wife thought the 1st one she bought.........a Roomba was OK

but the 2 replacements since are Wyze brand, IIRC.......and she's even happier with them. She can program and control them from her phone

My kid was 2 months shy of 8 when we saw R rated Halloween H20 in 1998.

My kid was 8 1/2 when we saw the R rated Matrix in 1999.

Sometimes you see these kinds of rules put in place at work or school because rather than deal with the individual who is acting out, leadership decides to basically punish everyone. It's deeply annoying.

Recently, u/googunk asked Reddit, "What stupid rule did your work have to make because one idiot ruined it for everyone?" and the replies were certainly a journey. Here are some of the top voted comments:
1."No popcorn. I work at a financial company and not once, but twice, someone burned microwave popcorn during end of day processing and caused the building to evacuate. Every once in a while, a new person is cooking some up and I just imagine the talking to they're about to get."

An 18-year-old was arrested in connection with a shooting that sent shoppers scrambling inside an Atlanta-area Walmart on Thursday, July 7, according to authorities in Georgia.

Matthew Thomas Jr. is charged with aggravated assault after police said he shot a man during an argument in the meat section at the Walmart on Highway 85 in Riverdale. Officers arrived at the store just after 7 p.m.

An off-duty officer was working there part-time and called for backup after hearing the gunshots, Riverdale police said in a news release. The incident prompted a heavy police response with units from the Clayton County Police Department, South Fulton Police Department, U.S. Marshals and several other agencies.

Thomas had run from the store by the time authorities arrived, police said. Surveillance video showed him arguing with another man moments before the shooting.

The man who was shot was taken to a hospital, according to authorities. His condition wasn’t known as of July 8.

Describing the frightening scene, a customer said she was waiting to check out when the sound of gunfire sparked a stampede to get out of the store, WXIA reported.

“We heard people saying, ‘Gun! Run! Shots!’” she told the news station. “I have two children, so I’m running out the store with two children, everybody was ducking, running. We’re in Walmart trying to shop. We’re running for our lives. It’s sad.”

The incident prompted a heavy police response with units from the Clayton County Police Department, South Fulton Police Department, U.S. Marshals and several other agencies.

Thomas had run from the store by the time authorities arrived, police said. Surveillance video showed him arguing with another man moments before the shooting.

The man who was shot was taken to a hospital, according to authorities. His condition wasn’t known as of July 8.

Describing the frightening scene, a customer said she was waiting to check out when the sound of gunfire sparked a stampede to get out of the store, WXIA reported.

“We heard people saying, ‘Gun! Run! Shots!’” she told the news station. “I have two children, so I’m running out the store with two children, everybody was ducking, running. We’re in Walmart trying to shop. We’re running for our lives. It’s sad.”

Doesn't it seem the under 23 crowd is a tad unable to deal with boomsticks?

Back when our nation started it wasn't unusual for people to have to wait until 30 for their inheritance.

This is shopping, dude.
Now people can't fucking shop for groceries because some anger management failure has to use his boomstick to prove he's right.
