I keep saying if people like Trump wasn't hiring them, they wouldn't be coming. They know they can get work here. Turn off the source. No hiring them. Fine the fuck out of the employers so they won't dare hire them.
yeah............that's sorta like endorsing "Buy American' when we already know most Americans look for the cheapest price first

My husband thought that way. I convinced him sometimes it's better to pay a bit more for better quality. I have clothes I bought in the 80s that are still good while newer items rip at the least opportunity

Before you fly into your "they could afford it" line, how much did that gal pay for that condo she sold for $800,000?

That's an excellent question............I do not know. Can we both assume if it was years ago, she's made a hefty profit though?
You say "People can't afford to buy." My argument back is "Maybe......but people really can't afford to Rent either."
When it comes to this 'affordable' discussion though.......... I will give you one glaring fact that is confounding........... WHERE are the entirely new neighborhoods/suburbs being laid out with smaller, more efficient and less expensive homes being offered? Something like 900-1200 sq ft homes with 2 or 3 stall garages and a decent yard.
It seems sorta like the cars we buy, Americans/consumers have driven the market into a 'Bigger is Better' mindset. So nobody is really even bothering to build the smaller stuff. Oh, they're building plenty of apartments, condos and duplexes, though. Very strange to me.
IF I were in the Govt and truly cared.......... I'd start pushing for exactly these kinda Zones to be set aside.

Yeah, and no one wants those apartments. There was a story on the news last night about apartments being built in Clairemont. Neighbors bitching about how the parking will be hell. They got theirs. Fuck everyone else. Replacing a couple churches

One more reason I loathe apartment living. Don't you find it odd that if Walmart puts up a store, they have to have ample parking, to include handicap spots and green spaces? But an apartment building rarely has enough parking for it's own residents? Partially because often enough there may be 2-3 cars per unit/tenants......AND they jam all their junk into the few garage spaces available, but not their car.
Why not replace a few Govt buildings, too? That UN building in NYC alone could house hundreds, if not thousands. And just a fraction of the city and National Parks could supply enough land for newer suburbs.

Much better than the busses Lower speed limits? The residents are the idiots begging for speed bumps. Now they're putting these crazy circles in the middle of intersections of residential areas.

If they came up with single pods, I might be convinced to try that mode of transport. It's the OTHER people that make the buses ewwww
Right? I drove thru my old neighborhood last nite and the whole stretch had signs stating "Slow Down! Children Playing!!" IN THE ROAD? ? WTF?
Roundabouts have been sprinkled all over this area, too. They're nuts about them at the DMV

OK. "In my day"... My cousins played baseball in the street. It was a residential area & in the 60s one could argue maybe people paid more attention because yeah, they never got splattered. The problem with buses is making connections. Like bus 2 gets you to this corner, but then it's an hour for the next bus to appear. The trolley runs every 30 minutes. It's a neighborhood I lived in once. Now there's big brick circles so one has to slow down to follow the edge. Good fricken heavens.

Yep........and in OUR day, kids knew enough to get OUT of the street when cars approached, too........unlike today
I still wouldn't wanna operate on other peoples' schedule.
Now imagine you get snow and ice..........so instead of continuing is a straight line, you have to navigate a tilted circle where there's ice. It ain't too fun even at just 15-20 MPH

YES! That same thing has been going on around here lately, too
I think because of Twitter and other smart phone based apps, people can coordinated these spontaneous parties/activities and think the cops will be too slow to respond.
It's very annoying and such a waste of time and resources, imo
