And Mel makes a cameo appearance in his mate's film. There's also a brief appearence by a guy called "Moose". Actually, the two films share a few important cast members. No offense, but I'm guessing that with such a small population, Aussie actors rarely find themselves out of work and must run into each other fairly frequently. "Moose" is "Fifi"!

We may not be as large as some countries, but we still have enough to go around. Besides, you seem to be overlooking the fact that certain film directors favour certain actors... Quentin Tarantino, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, even Clint Eastwood, just to name a few. And have you ever watched through the SHERLOCK HOLMES film series with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce?

Directors favoring certain actors is nothing new but I'm not sure that using the "studio system" as in the case of Holmes, is the best analogy.
In 1980, the population of Oz was about 14.5 million people. How many people per 100,000 are professional actors? 5? 6?
That averages to about 800 professional actors in Oz. How many of them were "Big Names"? How many movies per year was Oz putting out then? 30? 50?
There's going to be more than a bit of overlap. That's all I'm saying.

I doubt the US was the only country to employ something along the lines of a "studio system", or a rough equivilent of such. And the acting community down under also incorporated and shared with the Kiwis and other nearby "locals". We also imported big name foreigners from the northern hemisphere... to help sell films overseas. Of course, these days, the reverse is also true, with Aussies and Kiwis making a name for themselves overseas.

You may recognize one of your countrymen... along with a handful of famous Aussie actors...
By the way, when the guy goes over the side, there's no stuntman, no special effects... just the actor.
What you see is what you get.

I suspect that any profession with a small population and an even smaller "elite" population is going to have at least two of those people working together at some point.
The smaller each population gets, the higher the chances of working together.

And that's how we got many royal families.

I figure that's why I've seen so many Skarsgards in movies, too
At least most of them seem to be more talented than the Baldwin family.

Don't worry, it wasn't taken as such. I just wanted to point out that the pool of talent extends to nearby nations... and a few not so nearby. Rather like the US pool including Canadians and Mexicans and so forth. And right from the start, there also seemed to be a certain pool of talent - both in front and behind the scenes - working back and forth between here and the UK. I remember being surprised at least twice to see a couple of well-known Aussie faces show up in early black and white DOCTOR WHO.

Yeah, I wouldn't go around slagging off the Baldwins, mate, not with their record... They're likely to go off half-cocked at you.

I've liked much of Alec's work..... but he's a goofball. And it's hilarious (Not his wife Hilaria) that his own criticisms have really backfired on him.
And Adam, who's not even his brother is pretty good, as well.
But William? Daniel? Stephen? Totally nepotism, doncha think?

I can't say I've ever reallly paid much attention to their family as a whole, although I've enjoyed various films they've been in. I've been more preoccupied with the likes of the Carradines, the Douglas, the Quaids, the Sheens, the Sutherlands and so forth.

What you see is what you get. At first glance that may look like a Dutch tilt with trees planted at an angle to look straight, but as you said, it is in fact the real deal. The stunts they did back then never cease to amaze me. It was the silver lining of not having CGI, when someone had to grow a pair and do it for real and better than any software today could generate. One stunt I always remember and mention is that croc scene from Live and Let Die. It's one of those crazy scenes that seems like it *has* to be fake. Who the hell runs over the backs of actual, large crocodiles in a pond? Ross Kananga is who.

I think Jane made some good points there.
And all these years later it is too funny that this is even a discussion that's had anymore.

When a man calls a woman a golddigger, he's saying, "I hate women."
When a woman calls another woman a golddigger, she's saying, "That fucking bitch got there before me!"
