The line appears in The Prince, a harsh and brilliant treatise authored by fallen political leader Machiavelli after imprisonment and torture by Medici rulers for suspicion of conspiracy led him to retreat in bitterness to the countryside in 1513. However, what Machiavelli actually advised in Chapter XVII was that it is best to be both loved and feared. Only when that ideal is not possible, such as when gratitude dissolves during threats to survival, did Machiavelli suggest fear is a more reliable way to inspire discipline than bonds of love.

I just went looking for the origins of "It's better to be feared than loved."

Oh. That's right. You don't read anything not published by the alt-right. I forgot.

it should be apparent the majority of what I've read over the years has been pushing the agenda of the leftist media

it should be apparent the majority of what I've read over the years has been pushing the agenda of the leftist media Not without then going to an alt-right site to be told what you're really supposed to think about it.
Or, are you saying that the washing of your brain is complete and you can do all of your not thinking on your own?

Or, are you saying that the washing of your brain is complete and you can do all of your not thinking on your own?
So I've been unable to come to any conclusions, beliefs or opinions on my own?
I have resisted the brain washing for quite some time. Long before they even tried that term 'critical thinking' out on the gullible masses.

Have you considered "critical drinking" instead? There's a guy I know who could help you out with that...

No.
Most people don't. Like 99.999%. Choices are offered and one is chosen. People make a bunch of choices and assume that they have reached a conclusion... without ever questioning whether there might have been other choices which they were not offered in the first place. And every subsequent choice after the first is often chosen because seemingly follows and again, no one questions if there were other choices that weren't offered.
Sometimes taking "the road less traveled by" doesn't make you a free-thinker. It makes you an idiot for going the wrong way.

Sounds like a possibly infinite number of alternatives.
Really, for me anyway.......it was mostly just viewing others fail repeatedly.......then doing pretty much the opposite. Seemed like a conscious decision process to me.

Just because you made a decision doesn't mean you reached it without influence. Your answer also assumes a binary proposition: "A or B" without considering the concept of "A or Not A."

You know me well enough to know I prefer to keep things as simple as possible. People love to over complicate things in order to justify their rationalizations. Most people are not operating on that many plains to begin with.
B just seems like the smarter choice when A fails repeatedly. If B failed, too? I'd move onto C

Maybe you should have considered C alongside B in the first place....

That would likely have entailed considering D-Z, as well then
