7 Things poor people do that the rich don’t
Pieter De Bisschop Jan 22, 2019 · 9 min read
1 Rich people read books; poor people watch TV.
While the poor people are enjoying themselves by watching Netflix and chill, rich people are educating themselves, trying to understand things that they couldn’t do before. Although reading books to understand women is still futile. You will have better luck by watching ‘Sex and the city’ or ‘Friends.’
Not every book will suffice for the rich people. Only books that will bring them closer to accomplishing their goals. Books like ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ or ‘The Richest Man in Babylon’ for those that want to increase their wealth. Or ‘Principles: Life and Work’ for those people that want to optimize their life. And ‘Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain’ for those that want a healthy brain in a healthy body (Here is my short version for that).
I have read all these books and I recommend them all to you. Do not hesitate to post your own list of books in the comment section. I’m always looking for more knowledge.
2 Rich people get paid based on results; poor people get paid based on time.
Poor people don’t profit from the results from their hard work. Their boss is, or the shareholders of the company are. Yes, even your boss could be wasting his potential. Poor people do get punished if the results are bad. They can get fired. It all depends on how good your boss like you. Or if you are (un)lucky, the way you look. Instead of improving your earning skills, you are improving your ass-kissing skills. How not to anger your boss. How to make the boss like you and give you a raise or how to pretend that you are working without your boss knowing that you are browsing Facebook. You might get more money this way or not be tired at the end of a ‘long and exhausting’ working day, but you won’t get rich!
You need to own up to the risk of getting a bad result. You need to work on your result in improving skills. Improve the product or service that you can deliver. All the risk are on your shoulders, but also all the profits. If you make shit, then you get shit for profit. If you make or deliver the best-dammed thing in the world; You can make millions, even billions that way. If you start a company that provides a product or service, then you are the shareholder, you are the bottom line. Every profit goes to you. All the big companies started this way, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Google and so on. Heck, even McDonalds is worth 140 Billion. As long as you are not doing the hamburger flipping or mopping the floor, you can be rich. They took the risk head-on. They own their craft, they own their risks. They own the results!
They pay other people minimum wages for all the work that they don’t want to do. More people working on your products mean more product. More products mean more results. They own the results, they own the work of the people that they pay. They are the ones that are profiting from your work.
Your work needs to be result based. Only then can you improve yourself to improve the results that you can deliver. Only this way can you become rich.
Do you think artist get paid to practice? Do they get paid by the hour? No! They get paid by the result and only the results. They can make more money in a single day; than you can in a decade.
3 Rich people take responsibility for their own failures; poor people blame others for their misfortunes.
For poor people, it’s always someone else’s fault. They don’t own up to their mistakes. The problem with that is that they cannot improve. They don’t learn from the mistakes. Thinking that way closes all the doors to improving your money earning skills. If you are so perfect, then why don’t you make more money? What can you do to make more money if you are already the best that you can be? You all have used cheap excuses like, the economy is bad or my boss doesn’t like me or the government screwed things up. My mom won’t let me. You are perfect but don’t own more money because the rest of the world is holding you back or Life isn’t fair. Think again. The world is fair. It’s your perspective that is wrong. You earn the correct amount of money. If you didn’t, then someone else would pay you more to work for them.
Rich people take up the responsibility for their failures. They use it to learn how to do it better. How to improve what they are doing. In doing so, they improve the results that they can accomplish. And in turn, improve their own self-worth. This will result in making more money for the same activities. Or doing less for the same kind of money, in case you prefer being lazy over being rich. Because you will do them better. You will do them without fault because you fixed the faults. If your life is a complete mess, then it is your fault. Blaming someone else will not fix the fault. Not even if you are president. Your actions were your own, take responsibility for them. Improve your actions, improve yourself. Become worth so much that nobody can pay you enough to make you work for them. You earn your own money. You get paid by the result that you create. You are your own boss. You decide your own destiny!
4 Rich people focus on investing; poor people focus on saving.
You can never get rich by saving. If you make 100K every year, how are you planning on saving to become a millionaire? You need to save all your money you will earn in the next ten years just to become a millionaire. How are you going to live? A man’s gotta eat! Drink normal coffee instead of Starbucks will save you a few dollars. What are you gonna do with that money that will make you rich? Nothing! You will do nothing that will make you rich. If you could become rich with money that you saved, then you can become rich with the money that you are already earning. Do that instead. It’s a lot easier; you already spend years educating yourself about that subject. Focus on increasing your income. Make the income stream bigger, or make more income streams.
Saving is not an income stream. It is a delayed expense. If you don’t do anything with your savings, it is worth as much as the fat on your belly. Getting fat is also saving. Does it do you any good? No, it is a potential that is weighing you down (and probably also all those doughnuts). Use your saving to increase your income flow. Invest it into something that keeps pays you for all eternity (And I’m not talking about ‘Win for Life,’ that is not investing). Investing is easy money. After your investment, you don’t have to do anything to keep getting that money flowing in. Keep enough of you saving so that you have money to pay for things when the world goes to hell. It doesn’t matter if it’s just your world or the actual planet. McDonald’s won’t sell you a cheeseburger if you don’t have money.
5 Rich people continuously learn; poor people think they know it all.
Rich people keep on learning because they own their faults. They need to know how to improve themselves so they can make fewer mistakes. Poor people think they are perfect and don’t need to know more. Because if they can learn something new, then that means that they weren’t perfect after all. Rich people know they are not perfect, and they are not trying to become perfect. They need to become better not perfect. They hope that they are still far from being perfect. Because perfect is the end of the race. That is the point you cannot improve any more. You cannot make more money by becoming better. Rich people hate becoming perfect as that will limit their potential.
Poor people like to talk. They like to tell the world their opinion. It’s like they try to change the world so the world can be perfect like them. It could be for some other reason, but let’s use this reason. This reason makes it sound like they actually care about the world. Poor people talk about changing things while they don’t even know how the current things work. Rich people listen to the world. The world is far smarter than any single human. It is a source of knowledge. There is no point in changing the world as the world probably will be smarter than you. If you try to change the world instead of yourself, you will stop learning and stop improving. The world will out-smart you. You will lose the game because you stopped playing it. A football stadium is also filled by people that can play better than the athletes. But none of them are professional players. The real players are either playing or observing the competition. They are not yelling how things should be done.
Poor people tell their opinion and want others to listen.
Rich people ask questions and want others to answer.
Poor people want attention.
Rich people want knowledge.
Poor people have an opinion on how to do things better.
Rich people do things. And then search for how to do it better.
6 Rich people believe that poverty is the root of all evil; poor people believe that money is the root of all evil.
If you believe that money is evil, then why do you want it? You want to be rich, without having to deal with money? I have never seen a rich person rob a bank or jewelry. The worst I have seen rich people do is doing some ‘percussive maintenance’ on a vending automate. Poor people that live in poverty are known to have it easier to think about stealing someone else’s money. They all have the opinion that rich people are basters, that it is a good thing to steal from them. They all like playing Robbin Hood. Steal from the rich and give to the poor.
Let me remind you that the USA is in debt the most of all people or companies. That would make them poorest of all. Do you like that they steal from you? If you think Robbin Hood is good, then you need to believe paying taxes is good too. Not because it is good for the country, but because you are giving to the poor. Yeah, tax collector are Robbin Hoods!
Nobody likes to lose their hard-earned money. It doesn’t matter if you have plenty of it or just one stack of pennies. If you steal, then you are a criminal. If you try to justify it by calling them rich and thus bad people. Then you have a problem. Money doesn’t make them evil, being in poverty did make you evil. If you have 3 cars and I have none. Then I cannot justify stealing one of your cars by saying that you have more of them than me. It doesn’t matter how poor you are, in this world someone is so much poorer than you, that he will call you rich. Just remember if you have nothing, you still have 22 trilion more dollars than the USA (that is 180K of dept for each taxpayer).
You know where the evil people live. Walk with ragged clothes through the rich neighborhood. You might get the cops called on you because the rich don’t trust you. They think you are up to no good. Now walk with a nice suit through the ghetto. Do you feel safe? You now feel how the rich are feeling. When a poor person walks through the rich neighborhood, the rich get scared. Because they know what poverty does to people. You know it is so. Especially if you talk to someone in the Ghetto that is starving and knows that he can sell your nice suit.
Poverty can corrupt the dignity of people.
Money is neutral; it gives freedom to people to do what they want. People are not born evil. Some event will make them so. Most events can be evaded by money.
7 Rich people have an action mentality; poor people have a lottery mentality.

Rich people take action. They make themselves rich. Poor people need someone or something else to make them rich. Poor people like to gamble for success. If they win the lottery, they quit their job, do what they want. Rich people make a plan. The make an action plan with detailed steps what they need to do to get what they want. They leave nothing to chance. They own their own fortune. They don’t have to ask their friend or their mom for permission to do something with their life. It’s their life. They are the one in control.
Sheesh! No wonder I'm poor.
