Doesn't have to be poverty if we decide there shouldn't be. Imagine if all the marginalized folks born into miserable living conditions woke up one day to a country that actually gave a damn about them.
Tell me something, Joe.........why would you give a damn about me if I didn't give a damn about myself?

so clearly the message here is the Govt should just keep sending out $Billions in money so that spending will remain high? With no thought or plan to how it's ever going to be paid back.......or what all of that 'free' money is going to do to the future cost of living?
I swear sometimes I wonder how often people have to repeat the same mistakes before they'll ever learn? Oh, yeah......forever

But you probably do give a damn. You are possibly just acting out & just need a reminder.

That's just another silly rightie-ism that conditions you to turn away from problems that need to be addressed. The real issue is these people represent rungs on the ladder. And if some of them work their way up, others will be pushed back down. So you either want to live in a society where shitty poverty rungs exist, or you don't. Blaming the unfortunate for the rung they didn't create is the propaganda you choose to consume.

I do give a damn about what? Myself? Yes
Other people? Especially the problem people? Not nearly so much. Seriously, when people are as downright self-destructive as I've seen...... I got no interest in wasting a minute or a $Dollar on their asses.
I give a damn about Americans that could be doing better with just a bit of knowledge or a nudge in the right direction. But those that don't believe they should bother? "Scrape 'em off, Claire!"

They've been addressed. $Billions have been spent. Decades have gone by. The problems still exist. To some it looks as if it's just getting worse.
They represent the perpetual state of humanity, imo.
There will ALWAYS be poverty. That's just a fact. Don't forget, much of the rest of the planet would LOVE to be poor in the US.
And many of them do indeed create their own poverty.

You totally miss the point of that quote, don't you? Christmas Carol is all about caring about our fellow man. "I wear the chains I forged in life"

Can you point to a single program that claimed it would wipe out poverty forever? It can and should be done, but it's not been attempted so far as I know.

I don't miss the point. I'm laughing at it.
The sheer folly of some of this thinking.
For so many people that abandoned faith, support abortion and now have no tolerance for the views of others...... it's amazing how often they try to tap that "Care for your fellow man" nonsense.
You completely ruin the nobility of charity by making it mandatory. I could force you to do all sorts of things for others......does that somehow make me a great person? No

Sounds like most leftist claims that just not enough time and money has been spent ......yet.
Smarter people might refer to that as a sunk cost fallacy.

Safety nets: use 'em for a little while and then cut them away.

And I ain't a fan of organized religion in general.

That's the olde definition/version of Assistance.
Nowadays it's become an acceptable lifestyle with all shame conveniently removed.

Where's the shame? You realize some places literally have no jobs right? These people have been victimized by the failures of our leaders on both sides of the aisle.

Hey, if there were NO JOBS in your area.......for an extended amount of time..........WTH would you still be doing in that area?
And I'm not certain it's really the case in many areas.
Before Trump was elected, there were much higher rates of unemployment in the groups he apparently hates.........then immigration laws started being enforced in places like Chicago. Places that do not elect people like Trump........instead they opt for people that love and care for them.
But lo and behold, what happened? A few employers suddenly didn't have the cheaper labor force they were using.........they resorted to offering an even higher wage........and suddenly, as if by magic, the unemployment rates for people Trump supposedly hates went down to historic lows.
That can't be true, can it? It couldn't possibly have worked so simply, could it? Removing illegals leads to Americans being hired? And wages going up? Did Trump mistakenly provide positive outcomes for people he hates?

So you're suggesting people with no job and no money should just pick up and move to a nicer place? And if Trump started enforcing immigration laws en masse to weed out illegals, this is the first I'm hearing of it.

I'm stating my belief that if I were in an area with no jobs........ I'd leave. What's the point in staying? To hope things improve? eventually?
Wha? You didn't hear or see ANY of the pieces pointing out drops in illegal immigration? and a rise in deportations?
The howling coming out of DC was pretty much heard nationwide.
I've been saying the same approach should have been used years ago. Of course unemployment would go down and wages would go up without even having to raise the minimum wage. And the removal of 10-20 million people might actually even cause more competition in the residential rental prices.........that's what a lot of vacancy usually does to those prices, as well.

If Trump did that it would be considered an attack on establishment corporations/rich folk from the left. He would be basically initiating a class war against the rich which would hurt his chances of ever winning another election. I doubt he did what you said to any significant degree although I could be wrong.
