Milley: Taliban takeover of Afghanistan 'not a foregone conclusion' By Darryl Coote

July 21 (UPI) -- The United States' top military leaders on Wednesday touted Afghanistan's abilities to prevent the Taliban from taking over as the militant terrorist group has made territorial advances amid the United States' withdrawal from the war-torn country.
Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters during a press conference with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin that despite the narrative that the Taliban is winning, the Afghan Security Forces "have the capacity to sufficiently fight and defend their country."
"A negative outcome, a Taliban automatic military takeover, is not a foregone conclusion," he said. "We will continue to monitor the situation closely and make adjustments as necessary."

Yeah! Let's ask yet another one of those DC 'Experts' like Gen. Milley or maybe John Bolton?
Can the US get a refund? Or at least one of their heads on a platter?

Some more of Trump's "Best People"....
You're really gonna blame Trump for these GOP picks that have been around for decades?
Mad Dog Maddis lost favor because he wanted to continue and even start up new wars. The Military Industrial Complex........ just another extension of DC and Big Govt.

You got it backwards again, Abs.
It's GD, Raytheon, and the rest of the big corporations pulling the strings in DC, not DC directing the corporations.

1. Not sure. Let's take a look at his campaign finances... donors to his "charity"... who booked his hotels for the past several years...
2. And yet Trump swore to "drain the swamp" of those establishment types, but instead, he promoted them.
I almost feel bad for you, Abs. At least the Bushes and Reagan had some defensible actions, but Trump... not so much.

That's just it, dude.
I see that Trump delivered much better, imo, than either the Bushes or even exalted Reagan.
And he certainly faced even more hardcore daily scrutiny.........now it's even going back decades in the hopes of finding something/anything to get him with.

I'm still not sure what you think he "delivered."
Increased isolationism (wanted and unwanted)?
It's possible to prioritize your own people without making everyone hate you....

I don't think it is anymore.
Once the dependent and their supporters get accustomed to their lifestyles, there's really no pleasant way to stop enabling them.

All Trump did for 4 years was guarantee a win for Dems in 2020.

Brought to you by 8 years of Obama .......and to be fair, 8 years of Bush
And how is Biden doing now? Raising food stamps by 25%

1. Indeed. I've often said that the Dems and the SJW's are directly responsible for Trump's election... but I'm willing to go back decades further than you're talking about.
2. Considering how many people lost their jobs due to Trump, I'm guessing he's doing OK.
Do you think that ending welfare would magically make jobs appear and magically make people qualified for them?

I think ending it for able bodied people would motivate them to get back to work. Qualified? How qualified do you have to be to work at entry level jobs? Especially if many of those jobs invite workers from outside the US with less privilege and education?
Notice, baby still in the bathwater? I just want the actual babies to enjoy a much cleaner level of bathwater

I love how you always add "able bodied." Cracks me up every time.
Anyhooo... you say "entry level" when you mean "low paying." There are plenty of "entry level" jobs that require college degrees in order to be QUALIFIED.
I'm pretty sure that illegals aren't getting entry level jobs as tour guides at the Museum of Fine Art... regardless of how able their bodies are.
Different baby... same bathwater

I have to........otherwise there's always someone with the "But what about the handicapped or the special needs?" As if all of the handicapped or special needs types are totally incapable of lifting a finger themselves, too?
A former coworker's mother is deaf and hasn't worked for decades.......and I tried to imagine the kinds of jobs she could be doing...... like places where regular people are required to wear hearing protection, for instance.
It doesn't matter to me as I've explained many, many.......too many?....... times how it is actually possible to get by in the US with "low paying" jobs.
I'd guess it's primarily construction, cleaning, farming, food processing, auto body.........more labor intensive stuff. Though the wife used to have to deal with the occasional letter from the US Govt regarding a suspected SS# theft while she ran a restaurant.
I was clearly stating that I'm not against ALL people that receive assistance. But man O man is there a lot of fraud and waste out there.

So target the fraudsters rather than always talking about eliminating the programs.

I think we see the problems and want them fixed. We just don't think that scrapping the whole program with no backup plan is the optimal solution.

I've known several people on assistance that were eligible, deserving a really needed that help. They usually seemed to be wanting for a lack of resources.
I've known and seen several more .......by a LOT, dude......... that were milking the system and completely ripping off tax payers.
And it's like we've just decades of acceptance for it. They don't even bother to be subtle or ashamed of it anymore.
I know a cop that transferred into Fraud Investigations for about a year........and had to transfer to something else in order to not lose all motivation to do the job after that experience.

Let me explain my [continuous] "baby and bathwater" comments.
Just because there are people (even a lot of people) abusing the system, doesn't mean you scrap the system. We don't pull down all the traffic lights and stop signs just because some people blow right through them day after day and cause accidents and even death.
Maybe you'd like that. You like making sure innocent people die so that others can exercise their personal responsibility. You like blaming the dead for their lack of personal responsibility.
The fact that we can't rely on people properly exercising their personal responsibility is EXACTLY why we have laws.
And - as discussed before - some people have had their range of options so severely compromised that their ability to exercise personal responsibility is limited. Some people might even reach the conclusion: "If the system is going to fuck me, I'm going to find a way to fuck the system!"
Stop fucking people over and the majority will stop looking for ways to fuck you back.
"Bill has always been friendly, generous, and kind to me. I think I'll steal his identity and run up a million dollars on his credit card." said no normal person ever.
