............but even after Closing?
Woman killed, 2 cops hurt in Chicago-area drive-thru clashThe Associated Press July 28, 2021 03:14 AM DOLTON, Ill. Two suburban Chicago police officers were seriously injured and a 19-year-old woman died after one of the officers shot her early Tuesday as she drove away from a restaurant following a disturbance and crashed into a nearby business, police said. Police in Dolton were called to a restaurant at about 1 a.m. by employees who said a female driver with a gun was angry that the restaurant's drive-thru was closed, village spokesman Sean Howard said. “She wanted service, even though they were closed. ... She appeared to be very upset that she couldn’t receive service," even though the restaurant had been closed for about 30 minutes, he said. When officers arrived, Howard said the woman and a male passenger were asked to get out of the car. The passenger complied, but the woman began driving away while one of the officers was reaching inside the car to get the keys, Howard said. “He was halfway in the vehicle trying to remove her. That’s when she took off," he said. The other officer fired his gun at least three times, striking the woman, whose car ran him over while the other officer was dragged by it. The vehicle struck a squad car and crashed into a nearby bike shop about a block away, heavily damaging the shop's front entrance, Howard said. The woman died at the scene and the two officers were hospitalized in serious condition. Howard said the officer who was dragged from the restaurant to the shop was “in very, very serious” condition, while the other officer's condition had improved. The Illinois State Police are investigating and the medical examiner’s office will confirm the woman’s identity and determine her cause of death, Howard said. State police said in a statement later Tuesday that the woman was 19 and her last known address was in the nearby village of Homewood. Police bodycam video of the incident and surveillance video from the restaurant has been turned over to state police for their investigation, he said. I think my main point is simply that people are not being made fully aware of what the cops are dealing with day in and day out.

I think most people know.
I also think most people would like for cops to not act like every situation is going end up badly from the word go. Then it really just becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Yes, the police need to be alert and cautious, but they don't need to start off being belligerent.
I'm not saying that's what happened in your posted article, but when people start seeing that every encounter with police starts off as adversarial, they will start to see the police as adversaries.
There's always that scene in TV shows and movies where the cops capture some young kid who says, "I was doing nuthin'!" and the cop always says, "Then why did you run?" and the answer is always the same: "Because you're a cop."
See?
Even when a person has done nothing wrong, they feel threatened. That feeling is caused by the police and their attitude, not by the citizenry at large. We need to get back to community policing and seeing the police as our friends and protectors, not as the assholes who stop and frisk every person with baggy pants and a "doo-rag."

Because of the media, imo.......... many do see every stop by police as adversarial......and a threat to their very existence. (Which it might be......but the response is irrational)
a person? Or a defective thinker? an immature person not ready to join in with the rest of society?

Sorry, Abs, but when the police constantly treat you and yours like shit even though you've done nothing wrong, you start to not like or trust the police. It's not the media. It's not defective thinking or immaturity.
Ever get bullied at school, Abs? Did you ever find yourself trying to avoid the bully at all costs... even when there was no evidence that they were about to bully you?
Better yet: did you ever have a teacher that picked on you all the time in class even when you weren't doing anything wrong? Did you try to find excuses for not going to class? Did you dream of scenarios where you could get back at the teacher? Punch them in the nose? Get them fired?
Stop acting like the police are always right and stop acting like they treat every civilian the same even when there's no criminal activity.
Does that mean that all police are bad?
Of course not but... once bitten, twice shy.

Also, it would be nice if you could show where "cons" succeeded in creating a better police force in areas where they raised the standards.
I'm not saying you're wrong. I'd love to see standards raised and the level of training increased as well, but I'm just not sure we can lay the problem at the feet of a single party.

psst libs isnt a party. and cops used to have standards to meet...then the libs decided "we need more of this group and that group. " like a 200 lb 5'2 female for instance.

So you're saying that the inclusion of other races into the predominantly white police force, diluted their efficacy? That sounds a bit racist, don't you think?

I don't know the poster's original name from imdb2.......and they may have very well meant something racial.........but that isn't what they wrote.
A 200 lbs 5'2" female is probably not the best choice for a wide variety of jobs........... unless she's literally built like a brick shytehouse.

Have you been around much, Mac?
A friend of mine took the flight to your country and had a great time. He kept trying to get me to try Vegemite.
But I don't think I could handle that flight even.

I've lived in four different states or territories and travelled to a few others. However, as I don't like flying and get sea sick, I'll have to wait until they build a bridge to anywhere else.

Might be easier and cheaper to opt for a tunnel.
The flying has just gotten worse.......what with the post 9/11 garbage........and the shrinking of the seating. (Or maybe the growth of me)

No thanks... I'll take my chances on a bridge, but I'm not keen on the idea of a tunnel. I've only ever been up in a light plane... twice. And I regretted both experiences. PS - And what's wrong with vegemite?! When I went shopping this morning, I bought my next year's supply... one jar.
