Miami Herald Decades ago, Fidel Castro promised all a better way of life: He lied to Cubans like my parents | Opinion Jeanette Nuñez Sun, July 25, 2021, 2:31 PM In January 1959, Fidel Castro spoke in Havana and said: “We have a free country. We do not have censorship and the people can meet freely. We will never use force and the day the people do not want me, I will leave.” Castro promised Cubans a better way of life. But the reality is his revolution, which essentially began on July 26, 1953, became a tropical juxtaposition of sorts: an island rich in tradition, rich in soil, rich in entrepreneurial spirit; yet, imprisoned by the grips of a dictatorship forcing the people into hunger, poverty and oppression.
Jeanette Nuñez is the first Hispanic woman Lieutenant Governor of the State of Florida, and a former Representative of the Florida House.

And? I'm still not getting your point. The woman said, "we didn't get what we were promised." Is she wrong?

That promise goes unfulfilled all over the world.
At least with some capitalism, a person has the opportunity to choose their own misery or happiness.

I'm not sure that the choice between political or economic systems was the point. The point was that the people were lied to and then they were stripped of the power to force the government to keep the promise. It's sad that a pro-capitalist has no clue about the fact that capitalism is not a political ideology. I expect that from the left.

I view it as the best approach to achieving self-reliance and more freedom. This is why either swing of the pendulum ends up with those in power clamping down on people and their economics and the more freedoms that usually come with it.
I've often suggested that China was much smarter than the Soviet Union by recognizing that they can't sustain their kind of oppression with completely starving masses. You need at least some money coming in to pay for even the littlest of scraps you're dishing out. The trick seems to be in keeping the population under the thumb of authority while you're allowing them to get their tastes of the good life.
It seems in the US they're using fear to slowly raise the boil on the all the frogs.

You still don't understand - while understanding.
THAT is the problem
