The MPD has one of the highest officer to citizen ratios in the US at 1:184
The $15 million cut represents about 2.6% of the annual operating budget of the MPD and resulted in no reduction in uniformed manpower.
I suspect that increased violence in DC has the same point of origin as in the rest of the country:
Poverty - now increased due to Trump's idiotic handling of Covid
Distrust of the police due to institutionalized racism and the unwillingness of police forces to address the issue
Lack of physical and mental health care
