US overdose deaths hit record 93,000 in pandemic last year
By Associated Press Published: Jul. 14, 2021 at 9:11 AM UTC|Updated: 8 hours ago NEW YORK (AP) — Overdose deaths soared to a record 93,000 last year in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. government reported Wednesday. That estimate far eclipses the high of about 72,000 drug overdose deaths reached the previous year and amounts to a 29% increase. “This is a staggering loss of human life,” said Brandon Marshall, a Brown University public health researcher who tracks overdose trends. The nation was already struggling with its worst overdose epidemic but clearly “COVID has greatly exacerbated the crisis,” he added. Lockdowns and other pandemic restrictions isolated those with drug addictions and made treatment harder to get, experts said.

Add another 21,000 to Trump's death toll?
The speech we never heard in January, 2020:
"My fellow Americans, as you may have heard on the news, there is a new and deadly virus sweeping across China.
Due to the amount of international travel we see in our globalized economy, it is probably safe to say that this disease is already on our shores.
We don't have a lot of information now, but I have tasked the CDC and other government agencies with collecting all the information they can and updating me several times a day.
In the meantime, to slow the spread of this deadly virus, I urge all of you to follow these simple guidelines: 1.Do your best not to touch your face after touching public surfaces 2.Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 30 seconds. If washing your hands is not an option due to location, you should consider carrying some hand-sanitizer with you at all times. 3. Maintain a distance of about six feet between you and everyone around you as often as possible 4. Wear a face mask, as early indications show that this disease is spread by the microscopic droplets of saliva that come out of our mouths when we speak
Follow these simple rules and hopefully we can avoid the costly lock-downs that are crippling China at the moment.
In order to ensure that everyone has access to the preventative measures they need and that hospitals have the proper equipment, I have invoked the <insert special powers act here> and we will be quarantining incoming international passengers to quell the spread of the disease.
We must all stand together in a time of crisis. THAT is what makes America great.
God bless you all and God bless the United States of America"

Accountability? F her twice! Waupaca County mom wants accountability after son’s drug overdose deathAccording to the CDC, a new record was set in 2020 in the number of drug overdose deaths. By Joshua Peguero Published: Jul. 16, 2021 WAUPACA COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - In an urn inside Jennifer Bautista-May’s home rests her 33-year-old son whose life was cut short. “By the morning when we came in after the doctor seen him, that’s when they told us that, at that point, all brain activity had ceased and that he was pronounced dead. Excuse me,” Bautista-May said teary eyed. According to Waupaca County investigators, Jordan May died on June 1, killed by a drug overdose linked to fentanyl. He was unresponsive on May 30 in Lind. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data this week showing a 30 percent increase last year in people who died from drug overdoses. It was a record that was driven by synthetic opioids such as fentanyl. “A lot of it has to do with mental health and they don’t have insurance. So what’s cheaper, this cheap drug that they can get? That they take one shot and they feel great? Or going to a psychiatrist with no money? Trying to get meds with no money?” Bautista-May said. His mom said Jordan May dealt with manic depression and bipolar disorder during his youth and used alcohol and marijuana to self medicate. As he got older, May switched to harder drugs and there weren’t enough resources in Waupaca County to help him. “The people that were able to get the drugs to them, I just don’t think he would’ve done it if it wouldn’t have been so easily available. He wasn’t looking for it.” Waupaca County investigators arrested two people in connection to two overdose deaths that including May’s. The second victim was Kendra Rateau who was found dead on April 22 in New London. April Hardegen, 30, and Aaron Van Dyke, 31, were charged in the deaths, yet Van Dyke faces the more serious of the charges, which are two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree reckless homicide. Online records showed Hardegen already has an open drug-related case and dating back to 2009, she was convicted for theft, drunk driving, and hit-and-run. Van Dyke has previously been convicted on drug charges. Copyright 2021 WBAY. All rights reserved. www.wbay.com/2021/07/17/waupaca-county-mom-wants-accountability-after-sons-drug-overdose-death/

More lives that could have been saved by UHC.... If I may beat Abbey to the punch on UHC... Whatever happened to personal accountability? And surely it's up to God to decide who lives and who dies?

Even if I didn't break my leg, I'd still be walking funny.

funny: Ha Ha?
or
funny: peculiar?
Consider this, as well........ in my country they're currently handing out both NARCAN and Covid vaccinations for 'free' in order to "save lives" ............while insulin and chemotherapy are still $Big Bucks

2. The direction of those that feel we are all adopted by others (without their consent) It's a premise I refuse to begin with.

1. Good to know
2. That's sorta my point. You could provide everyone with everything they ever wanted ........ doesn't mean they won't still find plenty of ways to be annoying pricks and complete wastes of money and effort. Those 2 are fine if you're paying your own way, imo. Not so much if others are expected to provide for you.
