Associated Press Official: Haiti President Jovenel Moïse assassinated at homeEVENS SANON and DÁNICA COTO Wed, July 7, 2021, 5:20 AM PORT-AU-PRINCE, Hatii (AP) — Haitian President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated after a group of unidentified people attacked his private residence, the country’s interim prime minister said in a statement Wednesday. First Lady Martine Moïse is hospitalized following the attack late Tuesday, interim Premier Claude Joseph said. Joseph condemned what he called a “hateful, inhumane and barbaric act,” adding that Haiti’s National Police and other authorities had the situation in the Caribbean country under control. The nation of more than 11 million people had grown increasingly unstable and disgruntled under Moïse's rule. Its economic, political and social woes have deepened, with gang violence spiking heavily in the capital of Port-au-Prince, inflation spiraling and food and fuel becoming scarcer at times in a country where 60% of the population makes less than $2 a day. These troubles come as Haiti still tries to recover from the devastating 2010 earthquake and Hurricane Matthew that struck in 2016. Moïse, 53, had been ruling by decree for more than two years after the country failed to hold elections, which led to Parliament being dissolved. Opposition leaders have accused him of seeking to increase his power, including approving a decree that limited the powers of a court that audits government contracts and another that created an intelligence agency that answers only to the president. In recent months, opposition leaders demanded the he step down, arguing that his term legally ended in February 2021. Moïse and supporters maintained that his term began when he took office in early 2017, following a chaotic election that forced the appointment of a provisional president to serve during a year-long gap. Haiti was scheduled to hold general elections later this year.
Coincidentally there was just an online piece on the wonderful history of Haiti.

I'd like a link to the history piece.
I'm not sure I'd call the history of Haiti, "wonderful," but certainly, "interesting."

I haven't read it yet but the word "wonderful" doesn't appear in the text. The "find on this page" feature works wonders.
I think it's hilarious how you think it's OK to dismiss outlets that YOU consider having an agenda, but that you hate when I point out how your preferred sources really DO have one....

1. If only there were any unbiased and objective sources left, huh? or ever existed in the first place?
2. Ever consider that as the country continues to drift further and further to the Left, remaining in place eventually leaves a lot of people on the 'extreme right'? I'm chuckling about this as you're making posts from Communist China and taking offense by any suggestion that their Govt is what it is. Meanwhile, the collectivists here are doing all they can to 'fundamentally change' the US.

1. If only there were some unbiased consumers of the media, huh?
2a. When have I taken offense regarding the Chinese government? When you conflate the government and the people, I take offense. When you suggest that cultural attitudes here have something to do with communism, I take offense. When you blather on about unsubstantiated conspiracy theories, I just laugh at your stupidity.
2b. You say, "collectivist" as if you actually know what it means, but you obviously don't. It's just a more herpaderp from a person who's not half as bright as he thinks he is.

And THAT has never happened.......though I already know you don't believe it. I would no more believe the people of China are personally responsible for their Govt's actions than I would what goes on in DC. They're just people.....like everyone else.
Ummmm, so you're saying my observations or belief that Asians are just plain better behaved culturally is somehow racist or a put down? How are you perfectly OK suggesting the Chinese are more Jewish-like than Jews when it comes to money and working for generational wealth? I consider that to be a compliment, too either way.
Collectivist is simply the most generic term I can use to avoid the usual "You don't know the difference between socialism and communism" arguments. I prefer to keep it simple. Either you're a person that leans more towards Individual rights.....or you buy into the "Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" type.

1. You're right. I don't believe you 2. Yes. I'm perfectly OK with noting a stereotype as a basis of understand for a completely different culture that people have less understanding of. 3. And you have just proven that you don't understand "collectivism."
