A routine traffic stop turned into the arrest of a teen suspected of killing a mother of six.
Parker County Sheriff’s Office deputies pulled over Hector Alejandro Rivera, 18, because his 2012 Kia Forte didn't have a front license plate, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. Officers ran Rivera’s plates and found he was wanted in connection to the 2020 shooting that killed Carmen Enriquez, 33.
Enriquez was killed on June 29, 2020, at around 11 p.m. in Fort Worth, Texas, according to Dallas local news station WFAA. Police arrived at the 200 block of West Mason Street, where Enriquez with multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body.
Enriquez had been sitting in her oldest son’s parked car when two vehicles pulled up. A dark-colored SUV pulled up next to her and opened fire, according to Fort Worth Star-Telegram. One of the six or seven rounds fatally hit Enriquez in the head.
The Texas mother had just taken two of her sons to their friend’s house for a visit, according to the Star-Telegram. Her sons witnessed the shooting but were not in the parked car.
Enriquez’s sister, Isabel Guerrero, told the Star-Telegram that one of Enriquez’s sons tried to bring his mother back to life.
“It’s horrible, just knowing that you’ll never see your sister again,” Guerrero said. “You’ll never hear her voice. You’ll never get to laugh with her. You’ll never get to do anything that you did before. It’s a horrible feeling that I wish on nobody.”
Rivera's arrest for the shooting came just one day shy of the first anniversary of the murder.
“The driver of the car, identified as Hector Alejandro Rivera, 18, of Saginaw, told deputies he purchased the car through social media in May and it did not have a license plate when he bought it,” said the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.
Rivera was placed in custody at the Parker County Jail before being transferred to the custody of the Fort Worth Police Department, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office post.
“Traffic stops are never routine,” said Sheriff Russ Authier. “Due to the felony homicide warrant, additional deputies were dispatched to the scene to take Rivera into custody. He was apprehended without incident.”

A front license plate? That's about as barbaric as requiring Voter ID
