February 29 should be set aside as a public holiday every 4 years, for voting, on a local, state and national level, as well as any other civic duties or events that might be considered appropriate. Here in Australia, that's mean extending the term of government from a maximum of 3 years to 4 years... And in some countries, it might mean shortening government terms.

You have a problem with celebrating a milestone in the evolution of the United States?
However, If you don't like the holiday, feel free to "opt out" and work a full week with no overtime.

Milestone? Whatevs
Yet another holiday for federal employees?......while all the drones still have to work? Except now maybe not certain colors? Awesome
And you did not address my point.......not some silly thing named Juneteenth.......but the fact that voting has not been made important enough to be on an actual holiday that would make it easier for millions to vote. Instead I gotta read about the 'GOP dismantling of voting rights' non-stop?
I don't work full weeks or overtime anymore. I made sacrifices, choices and decisions years ago to steer myself towards my current situation. What a prick, huh?

Happy Juneteenth! Woo HOO! Michigan woman fatally shot by officer near Juneteenth paradeIt happened on the second day of Flint's three-day Juneteenth celebration during the Champions Parade. Biba Adams / Jun 21, 2021 A 19-year-old woman was fatally shot on Saturday by a police officer in Flint, Michigan after she allegedly fired first not far from the city’s parade for Juneteenth. “Preliminary investigation indicates the officer, who was working a traffic point for the Juneteenth Celebration Parade, was fired upon by the lone occupant of a vehicle who drove up to him at the traffic point,” Michigan State police said. “Upon taking fire, the officer returned fire, striking the suspect.” State law enforcement authorities are investigating the shooting at the request of the Flint Police Department. A local report notes that cellphone video taken of the incident confirms police officials’ description of the shooting. In the video, the officer says, “Let me see your hands, hands up,” with a handgun pointed at a stopped vehicle.

I have no problem with making election day a holiday... but only if it remains on a Tuesday or (better) push it to Wednesday. I wouldn't want to create a long weekend that might diminish voter turnout.
And if you don't want to hear about the GOP and voter suppression, you might want to tell the GOP to stop trying to suppress voting rights.

Now that's interesting.........you thinking moving it to a Sunday or Monday would lower the number of voters? hmph
Words matter. Rules matter. Expectations matter.
But in DC, corruption doesn't.

1. You can't have election day on the weekend. Some religious group would get pissy about it. If you make it a Monday or Friday, many people will go off on a 3-day vacation and then not want to stand in line to vote.
Tuesday or Thursday are slightly better as fewer people can afford to take the extra day in between to make it a 4-day weekend.
Hump-day seems the best choice in our modern world.
2. Corruption in DC always matters, which is why we need as many legal, registered voters as possible.

1. Coddling religions seems foolish. Where's that separation of State? How many religions do their thing 24 hours a day?
Yes, we must make everything as effortless as possible for people. Make it all the more easy to encourage stealing from others. Seems to be a common theme these days.
2. We don't even strive for as many legal, registered citizens anymore. Cuz of DC yet again.

Put election day on a Saturday and you piss off the Jews. Put it on Sundays and you piss off the conservative Christians. The FF chose Tuesday so as to guarantee freedom of religion on the weekends and allow for farmers to use Monday as a day to travel to the polls.
1b. I'm not sure that anything I said had to do with making it easier, nor did I mention stealing. Did someone spike your Pepsi?

If they were on Twitter they'd garner much more support as an oppressed minority?
I know the olde saying is the squeaky wheel gets the grease..........but at some point isn't the wisest choice to just ignore the few whinebags?
Wasn't it Lincoln? You can please some of the people......etc etc

The fact that I said, "conservative Christians" and you jumped to the Amish rather than admitting that the evangelicals would put up a fight tells me everything I need to know.

you call it a fact, when your conclusion is really just an opinion?
There are far too many sects and religions to keep track of, imo I don't agree with most of them, but I am tolerant of them to some degree

1. I factually used the term, "conservative Christians." Just use your scroll button.
2. And the Constitution guarantees that the government will be tolerant of them as well.

This whole Govt = People thing is very inconsistent.
I have seen less tolerance in recent years........except for criminals, of course.
And the Govt officials supporting such nonsense don't even have the decency to simply change/eliminate the laws.
