what's your take on this one?
Virginia dad dumps 80,000 pennies as final child support payment. Daughter reacts with class By Nancy Dillon New York Daily News |Jun 11, 2021 at 6:05 PM Virginia dad dumps 80,000 pennies as final child support payment
A Virginia dad lost all parenting sense and made his final child support payment for his teen daughter by dumping 80,000 pennies on her mother’s lawn.
The mom and daughter responded by counting their blessings and paying the money forward to a Richmond shelter serving survivors of domestic abuse, the shelter’s executive director confirmed to the Daily News.
Video of the incident, shared by Safe Harbor Shelter with the mom’s permission, shows the dad making the delivery on May 21, just days before his daughter Avery Sanford was due to graduate from Deep Run High School, the director said.
“I just turned 18. When I was in the middle of class, my dad came by. He had rented a trailer,” Avery told WTVR earlier this week.
“He pulled up in front of the house and turned the trailer on so it dumped out all the pennies on the grass and my mom came out and was like, ‘What are you dumping in my yard?’” Avery said. “She didn’t know who it was until he shouted, ‘It’s your final child support payment.’”
The teen called the stunt “upsetting,” but said she was determined to turn “this situation into a positive” by donating the money to “moms and children in need.”
They counted up the pennies and donated the $800 to Safe Harbor.
“For something so demeaning and nasty to be turned around like this, to me it shows all the good in the world,” the shelter’s executive director, Cathy Easter, told The News.
She said the story has reached around the globe over the last two days and led to an outpouring of support.
“Donations are pouring in. We heard from Canada, someone in England. It’s amazing. Just so many nice comments about Avery. It’s just been so uplifting and incredible,” Easter said.
Reached by phone on Tuesday, Avery’s dad reportedly told WTVR he let his emotions get the best of him after years of frustration with the custody case.
He reportedly said he never intended to hurt his daughter.

The guy's a complete asshole and if his daughter never sees him again, she's doing well.

It was an assholish move....... but you're not buying any somewhat justifiable reason for being so?
You never had any issues with your Ex? Or you just rose above it all and behaved like an adult throughout?

My issues with my ex had nothing to do with my love for my daughter and never interfered with me taking care of her financially.
This guy was out there showing that his love for his daughter was simply an economic argument between him and his ex.
He's an asshole and the daughter should be glad to be rid of him.

of course not.............so you weren't denied visitation?....... or had your Ex play mind games with your kid during her formative years?
One of my friends, admittedly often his own worst enemy......but a decent and devoted Dad.......had both his ex-wife and ex-GF play many of those games. It seemed so petty for adults to behave like that.......especially in front of the kids.......but it seems like they were more just pawns in those games.

1. No and no. And even if she had, it wouldn't have changed my love for my daughter and certainly not to the point of being that disrespectful. Tell me that the payment was for alimony and not child support and I'd probably cheer the guy on.
See the difference?
2. I know there are lots of scumbags out there that use their children as pawns in their divorce games. Both my ex and I would beat those fuckers to bloody pulps.

I agree with that difference.......... if it makes a difference, in another form of the same story, the daughter said she hadn't associated with or spoken to her father in years..........which got me to thinking if he was a total asshole he'd have had a pattern of acting so. But just the penny drop?
Right answer

If the guy needs health care, I still think the government should pay the bill.
I don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Weird statement from a loud and proud pro-choicer.
What happened to the very scientific belief in Prevention rather than Treatment? In this era of pushing vaccinations, why not decades olde similar pushing to make birth control mandatory?

That was a reference to YOUR general attitude that if a process fails for one then we need to scrap the whole idea.
And you know it.
As for your tangential stupidity: you being vaccinated affects the people around you. You (were you female) having an abortion, doesn't.

The ever present libertarian mocking? All or nothing? Instead of limitations?
1. Abortions harm the future of the country don't they? Not enough babies! And it certainly affects the pocketbooks of people around them in the form of higher taxes. (Go ahead and argue pennies versus dollars) Or even better, that disagreeing with any of it is a sure sign of cheapness......or worse, racism!
Why wouldn't clear racists be totally in favor of aborting all fetuses of the colors they despise?

As a protest, it was a bit on the childish side, possibly misdirected, but importantly, it was a non-violent.
If it's a result of deep frustration after dealing with the family court - or the American equivalent - for several years, I can sort of understand it, even if I don't condone it.
At the end of the day, he made it clear he had no intention of harming his daughter and I believe him...

1. You jumped past "libertarian" straight to "sovereign citizen" a long time ago
2. And it would be nice if people could afford them, but they can't
3. Because eventually they'd have no one to hate and they'd turn on each other

1. Funny.....cuz the religious guy I chat with loves referring to himself as a sovereign citizen. And I automatically pull back from that kinda thinking as it seems to be going too far to the extreme. Does he think no laws apply to him? Does he believe he never has to yield to Govt? Where's the line?
2. So mandatory birth control? I like it
3. I hadn't thought that far down the road.........good on ya. That's funny......but I don't think it seriously answered the question.

1. You used the word correctly a second time!
2. I said no such thing
3. The serious answer is that most of the racists are also strong Christians.

Out of the over 7 Billion on the planet........what percentage would you guess doesn't hold some stereotypical or racist views in any way?
I keep telling you and you keep refusing to believe it....... but I truly do not understand that thinking at all. Skin color? Parentage? Even anti-Semitism? I can not figure out how or why people cling to such nonsense. All I've ever been able to come up with is it somehow makes them feel better about their own selves in some sick and twisted way.
It's really making me laugfh and roll my eyes at the suggestion that the US is somehow much, much worse than other areas of the planet.......aren't we the Melting Pot? Don't we have tons of different races and nationalities? Haven't we been preaching tolerance, acceptance and assimilation for many, many decades? Meanwhile tons of countries are much less integrated......and certainly not welcoming to all.
