All members can not be treated exactly equal because all members do not think, act or behave the same. Yes, the Law should treat them the same......but part of that is their responsibility, too.
I certainly don't expect a wealthy person to receive the same level of legal representation as the poorest........ that's part of the incentive of gaining wealth, isn't it? Same goes for healthcare. And a lot of other things our civilization has to offer.
But if there is a failing in the Govt treating everyone equally........ isn't that a direct complaint against Govt itself? Not the system of justice per se........but the people currently running things?
I could argue a 'public good' is the police shooting dead a violent repeat offender.........but not everyone agrees with that. So we can't even decide what is or isn't in the best interests of the public good.

I just caught a news piece minutes ago about a 14 yr old girl stabbed, choked and beaten to death by a homeless meth user. Sorry if I'm the oddball for preferring to swap the two of those people's current status.

1. I don't like violent repeat offenders. I also dislike the idea of agents of the government (at any level) having the right to execute anyone and everyone they deem "unworthy."
2. And I would prefer that the homeless meth-user had had the opportunity to receive help so that the crime never happened.
But hey, like you have said about the 615,000 Covid victims: she was eventually going to die anyway, right? |

"Unworthy"? How about just a clear threat to others?
They HAVE the opportunity........there's PSAs non-stop. There's charities and Govt programs galore. There's educational warnings against even getting started. ALL of it is ignored.
Don't expect me to get all weepy about the 600K dead now. It was supposed to be well over 3 Million, IIRC. And I called bullshit then, too. That flattened curve nonsense was laughable, as well.
