Politico Police are still killing people at the same rate as beforeNolan D. McCaskill Mon, May 24, 2021, 11:00 PM George Floyd’s murder, the ensuing mass protests, the renewed calls for police reform and the trial of the former police officer convicted of his murder overshadow a staggering reality: The pace of fatal encounters with police, who have killed about three people per day this year, is on par with last year’s daily average. Through the first four months of the year, there have been just six days in which police across the United States did not kill anyone. It’s a bracing reminder of how little has changed despite a pandemic and intense scrutiny of policing practices in the 12 months since the world witnessed the Floyd killing in Minneapolis. “There’s an effort, at least by some political actors, to give folks false hope that we’re turning the corner around police violence,” said Scott Roberts, senior director of criminal justice and democracy campaigns at the racial justice group Color of Change. “These numbers show that, as far as we can tell, it’ll continue.”
Crime is up all over the US, there are fewer police on the job......and the number of shootings remained constant?
One could argue that's actually an improvement, no?

by the by...........you did not give your general impression of those numbers.
Personally I think it just shows that even with less cops, the criminal element is still out there.....and if anything, behaving more brazenly and ending up getting shot for it.

I also went looking for another thread........ I thought it was started by you?......... on the so-called rash of attacks on Asians in the US. (Methinks it's a bit of a more focused propaganda campaign by the media)
but regardless........ here's yet another young male reinforcing the negative stereotypes in a disproportionate fashion?
Commuters, Subway Operator Save Asian Man Thrown Onto Train Tracks in Queens Ryan General Tue, May 25, 2021, 11:55 AM
Commuters and a quick-thinking subway operator saved an Asian man from certain death after he was thrown onto train tracks in Queens in New York on Monday morning.
The incident: Local authorities are looking for the suspect who pushed the 36-year-old victim onto the southbound tracks at the 21st-Queensbridge Station at around 7:45 a.m. just as an F train was arriving, reported NBC Bay Area.
According to witnesses, the suspect approached the man and said something to him before shoving him onto the tracks.
It remains unknown what words were exchanged as the victim only speaks Mandarin.
Subway operator Tobin Madathil said he immediately placed the approaching train into emergency mode after noticing people waving at him, the NY Post reported.
Commuters brought the man back to safety as the train pulled to a stop 30 feet away from him.
The victim, who was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital for treatment, reportedly suffered a laceration on the forehead.
Suspect at large: The NYPD is now looking for the reported suspect, who is said to be between 20-30 years old, about 6 feet tall, and was wearing all-black attire including a face mask, hoodie, pants and shoes on the day of the attack.
The authorities are looking into whether the attack was motivated by race and have released an image of the reported suspect.

Doesn't it depend upon what's in the glass?
If it's whiskey, the glass is half empty.
If it's water, the glass is half who gives a fuck?

The numbers are confusing. Some outlets simply report the number of shootings while others only mention deaths and yet other lists identify only those that were deemed "justifiable." But, overall, the police have killed (justifiable or not) about 1,000 people per year since at least 2015 and possibly longer - no one was really keeping good track prior to that.
Percentages by race have been fairly consistent with the exception of "Unknown" which has been on the rise since 2015 but really took off in 2017.
In the end, all that can be said for certain is that crime exists and that the police sometimes end up killing people in the performance of their duties. I think one can safely assume that if the number of crimes goes up, the number of police shootings will go up.

Twice as many of the attacks on AAPI have been perpetrated by other POC than whites, but according to apologists, that's only because white people have set the races against one another.

So you don't believe in roads?
It'd be nice if we could all just agree sometimes there's already more than enough laws/regulations.......... like with guns........or violent assaults.

Just because you have a lot of something doesn't mean it's the right something.
And if it's the right something today, doesn't mean it's going to be the right something tomorrow.
Values change.
Priorities change.
Most importantly: politicians change.
I'm not talking about flip-flopping - although that happens - I'm talking about shifts between parties being in or out of power.

I keep forgetting I'm talking to two divorced guys here. (And I only dodged a bullet by not marrying or impregnating one or two people myself)

Most people are always going to look at the world through the prisms of their own experience and beliefs regardless of whatever "oaths" they take.
The constitution requires that "no religious test be given" but in the court of public opinion they are given... religiously.
How many politicians are "staunch atheists"?

That's like a 3rd rail......... I'm thinking of all the people that get/stay married just to further their political careers.
I also have to say, there's nothing that disappoints me more than politicians with 'shifting' ideals........the longer they're in the game?
Paul Ryan went from a viable Vice Presidential candidate in my mind, to an absolute POS who should find another line of work far outside of DC.....far, far away.

That could be handled with a kiosk and a program.
