I love his work, but some of the people he pictured aren't Aussies... They're either Kiwis or Yanks.

Yeah.
And Nicole Kidman was born in the US.
Russell Crowe was born in New Zealand.
Guy Pearce was actually born in the UK.
I'd have to check the rest.

Mel's parents simply relocated due to a familial connection, but since his rise to fame started in Oz, people tend to think of him as Aussie.
Crowe also grew up in Oz
Ditto, Pearce
But I get where you're coming from. You should see the faces of Chinese students when I tell them that Bruce Lee was an American. They try to talk about how he grew up in Hong Kong and then I really piss them off by reminding them that HK was part of the UK at the time he was there.
Good times....

With your skills at pissing off the Chinese, you should consider working for the Australian federal government.

I never stray beyond the odd cask of white wine that I use for my hock, lime and lemons, but I was surprised to learn that many Australian wines are highly regarded around the world. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of wine, but each to their own.

Personally, I'm not much of a fan of wine, but each to their own. I enjoy a good wine from time to time... usually about the ineptitude of conservatives to act like decent human beings, but I digress... Aussie wines are actually pretty good, both for drinking and for making fun of.
I'm particularly fond of the shiraz whether the "z" is pronounced or not.
That said, should I ever decide to take a 10-hour plane ride to the middle of nowhere, I'd gladly knock back some HLL with you while you play your silly video game and proselytize about "Classic Who" being the standard against which all other SciFi should be judged, though I suspect that I would be able to pass out and still pick up the monologue 4 hours later without you even noticing.

Judging by your post, I won't need to play or proselytize about anything... My work is already done.

Everyone knows that Star Trek TOS is the bar for SciFi greatness.

Everyone knows that Star Trek TOS is the bar for SciFi greatness. For me, I always found the basic concept of DOCTOR WHO was superior, but that STAR TREK's realization of its concept was superior. I also liked that STAR TREK usually referred to all the life forms they encountered as species, whereas DOCTOR WHO was more prone to calling them monsters. Also, now that the original STAR TREK has had an audio/visual makeover with improved special effects, it looks absolutely brilliant. DOCTOR WHO has also been given a makeover on several serials, with the overall end result being good, but uneven. I'd love to see what they could do with BLAKE'S 7.

I like the concept of WHO but I weep for all the strange timelines it must have spawned....

I like the concept of WHO but I weep for all the strange timelines it must have spawned.... So did the original STAR TREK... and look at it now. I think the Time War - introduced at the beginning of New Who - has been used as a catch-all excuse for any or all "inconsistencies" within the DW multiverse...

Having never really watched the show... in any incarnation... I'll just take your word for it. My daughter is a fan of "New Who" though so maybe she'd understand. To be clear though, she is NOT happy with the latest Doctor. She says she was hoping that a female Doctor would be fun and "empowering" but was more than a little disappointed at the show's hyper-political writing. Mind you, this is coming from a Millennial who loves a good protest march.

I personally think it'd be more empowering for them to create a new female character... or use one that has already been established. Swapping a male to a female simply suggests to me that people think females don't have what it takes to make it by themselves... I dislike all forms of gender or race swapping... unless it's an integral part of the character from the word go, like Eldrad the Kastrian from the Classic Who serial, THE HAND OF FEAR.
