Too bad it wasn't something really important or consequential......... like voting
Cop Rescues 92-Year-Old Man Turned Away at Bank Because His ID Had Expired Deborah Hastings October 12, 2017
A Los Angeles County policeman went far beyond the call of duty while responding to a report of an elderly man having a fit inside a bank.
Montebello Police Department Officer Robert Josett was answering a public disturbance call when he was faced with a 92-year-old man who was upset because tellers wouldn’t give him his money.
The senior citizen’s California identification card had expired, and Bank of America’s policy requires that a valid government-issued ID be shown when making withdrawals.
So Josett comforted the white-haired gentleman by gently suggesting they take a ride over to the Department of Motor Vehicles and get him a brand new card.
And so they did.
With a little encouragement from the cop, DMV workers quickly renewed the man’s identification. And Josett brought him back to the bank, where he was able to get his hands on his money, just before closing time.
The department posted a photo of the officer leading the man, who leaned on a cane, into the DMV office.

The image has been viewed more than 257,000 times, and shared more than 39,000 times. It has also garnered more than 19,000 comments.
“Heart touching and I love that the officer was able to get him in and out of the DMV so quickly!" Sharon Watkins wrote. "That is medal worthy."
“With everything that is going on in our nation, this shall bring a smile to us all,” Mia Flores posted.
Heart touching, my ass

You're not happy that an article with a positive story about the police was posted?

Nope, it's way too little too late, imo............and it completely glosses over the BS rules/regulations being put into place and the abuses of every day people.
He wasn't looking to borrow their money. He wanted HIS money. That's elder abuse and they got away with it
But maybe I shouldn't be all that shocked? They've pretty much said crime is now acceptable

I'll bet if he was an illegal immigrant with invalid ID and got caught and deported, you'd be loving how dedicated the bank staff was.

Weird, I was just gonna post something about not giving 2 Fs about what happens to Illegals in this country.
I was going to post a sob story/sympathy piece from the Times or Atlantic last night about all of the US companies screwing over workers on Overtime/Wages..........but then it became clear it was mostly dealing with Illegals........so again, WHY am I supposed to enforce one law while ignoring another?
I'm supposed to care about sex trafficking and drug abuse, too? while the borders are as porous as they are? I'm not even going to bother caring at this point.

Maybe if all those businesses would just stop hiring illegals, the illegals would stop coming. You keep worrying about the rash and ignoring the underlying disease.

Now you sound like merh. That was always her solution....E-Verify as if it wasn't the Govt's job to enforce the borders and make sure Illegals weren't working here?
In this day and age of cell phones/computers and practically all credit/debit card transactions........... they know damn good and well who is who.
One area I feel the Govt should be involved and concerned is with protecting American citizens and their labor force. Whether it's keeping out foreigners from working here.......or not allowing corporations to relocate, use cheaper labor and then import back into the US without facing some sort of protectionist tariffs.

lo and behold............ it didn't take long for yet another sob story about Illegals........while arguing that employees just aren't being paid enough? a 'living wage' perhaps?
The Lie of ‘No One Wants to Work’ Amid reports of a restaurant industry “labor shortage,” employees say all they really want are wages that makes the risk worth it by Gaby Del Valle@gabydvj May 3, 2021, 2:25pm EDT
After eight years in the restaurant industry, Estefanía decided she’d had enough. Last summer, she quit her job at a New American restaurant in Chicago where she had worked as a manager and sommelier since 2017. Estefanía, who asked to be referred to by her first name because she is an undocumented worker, said she got COVID-19 in June and took two weeks off to recover and quarantine. When she came back, she noticed a shift in the way her employers treated her. “I came back to be given the silent treatment from the owner,” she told me via email. “He said I abandoned him and that he couldn’t trust me [or] see me as a manager anymore.”
Estefanía said the last straw was when a coworker threatened to call ICE on her. She quit the restaurant, got a job as a receptionist, and thought she was done with the restaurant industry altogether. But the pay couldn’t compare to what she was making before, so now, she’s back. Despite her hesitancy to return to the industry, Estefanía just started working at a Mexican restaurant in Logan Square, which she describes as a better experience than her last job.
The fact that Estefanía quit restaurant work and returned makes her a COVID-era rarity. For months, restaurateurs across the country have been sounding the alarm about an industry-wide labor shortage. Managers of small, independent restaurants and big national chains alike have told the press they’re having trouble getting longtime staff to return to their jobs or finding new employees to replace them. Managers and owners are largely blaming their inability to retain — or even re-hire — staff on expanded unemployment benefits designed to mitigate the economic devastation of the pandemic; claims that “no one wants to work” because they’d rather stay home and cash unemployment checks have become commonplace, even though they aren’t entirely accurate.
It took the author less than 2 paragraphs to contradict herself. So which is it? The pay is absolute shit? Or that restaurant work pays better than a lot of other jobs? Especially when dealing with a lot of $Cash tips?
an FYI: My cousin was fired from his bakery job a few months back. With the amount of Unemployment he's getting, combined with the massive reduction in what he pays for his prescriptions now(Down from $300/month while working to about $10)........ he's so far ahead NOT working that it's not even tempting to him to start looking for work yet.

1. Seems like an easy way for the government to do their job and reduce the number of illegals to me
2. I'd suggest raising taxes in order to fund getting rid of them, but I know how much you hate taxes....
3. MORE government intervention and control? Who are you and what have you done with Abbey?

People come here for a better life. Remove that opportunity and they'll stop coming.
Did you ever have a favorite restaurant that suddenly changed management (or just chefs) and all of a sudden it wasn't your fav anymore? Did you keep going there or did you find a new place to take the missus on date night?
That is an analogy. I don't want to get into a discussion about whether or not you and the missus have date nights, capisce?

We should become like a 2nd or 3rd world country? As long as the US has a better and more stable economy........people will want to come here.
So unless it all goes to shit like some other places, they'll keep coming.........to work in legal employers or in illegal occupations. That's part of the reason I roll my eyes at all the celebs that endorse illegals.....while at the same time decrying sex trafficking and drug crimes.

1. As long as we're doing well, people will want to come to the US. Once they know they can't game the system, they'll go someplace else or try to do it legally. Sure, there will always be people who try to figure an end-around but I'm betting that farmers don't want to lose their farms over a single undocumented worker. I'm betting that factories large or small don't want to be shut down for a single undocumented worker. Etc.
When businesses stop hiring illegals then illegals will have to go somewhere else.
Walls won't stop them. Maybe not being able to access the "American Dream" will.
2. Go to shit? Hiring US citizens for a decent wage make the US go to shit?
Stop conflating and obfuscating. I gave you an option and you're talking about celebrity bullshit?
Sounds like you're theorizing with criticism rather than thinking critically....

You're the one that completely dismissed the appeal the US has had for Illegals ever since those laws were put into place. My contention is simply that they will always keep coming so long as the environment is better than what they have at home. Even our prisons are better than some areas of the world.......so why not? THAT's without even mentioning the amnesty of the past........and likely very near future that'll be dished out yet again.
I'm finding this conversation fun and funny........because at the same time we agree they're coming for the American Dream........ actual Americans are bitching that's it's unachievable and never really existed. At least that's what many are teaching today, too.
On that 2nd point, if the Govt had done a better job of keeping Illegals out of the US, then the wages offered to employees would have naturally gone up over the last 40 years or so...... just as they did while Trump was in office.
How else do you explain flat wages thru Georgie W Bush and Obama? 2 different presidents/parties/approaches........ yet the economy didn't work for the middle and lower class. Trump just enforces laws already on the books and makes it clear Illegals are no longer welcome and the Unemployment numbers drop to unheard of numbers? Like some sort of magic wand? I didn't think it was magical in any way........ just common sense. Less people to work, the higher the wages will go voluntarily in order to get employees in the door. Right now there's a great deal of griping going on because Employers are complaining they can't even get applicants to show up because the covid relief/unemployment payments are incentivising people to just stay home.

Neither Obama's nor Trump's policies had fuck all to do with unemployment rates dropping... which BTW make no nevermind about the legality of the employed. And wages went up due to previous legislation forcing increases in the minimum wage. Look it up.
I'm just offering an option to make illegals not want to come here and you sound like you want to argue about something else.
Is your paper route in danger of being taken over by an illegal?
Is your wife's job as a dispatcher in danger of being taken over by an illegal?
Why are you mad at the illegal rather than your employer?
It's amazing how you can worry about all the jobs of people you never met but you don't give a fuck about killing them while you walk around without a mask....

I disagree...... I'm sure you've looked it up already and the people that agree with your politics came to the same conclusions. Doesn't prove to me that they've ever owned a company, handled a budget or know what the hell really goes on outside of a campus or govt setting.
I agree somewhat with keeping employers from hiring. I just know it's similar to the medical field in what can legally be done in the US. My wife had illegals working for here, or so she suspected.......but wasn't allowed to press the issue further by law.
I haven't delivered papers in years. It's been lowly service/clerk work for about 15 years now. Pretty much low wages all that time. And yet, somehow, I've managed pretty well keeping up with my 1/2 of our household bills. NOT having kids was a big factor, to be sure. But despite your assertions about most people not being me, thus not able to get by doing the same things....... I'm seeing it as a very simple approach that just about anyone can replicate. How difficult can it be to perform my low level duties?
My wife's job is secure, partially because of Illegals, and many many other criminals. In fact, they make it all the more busy.......and glaringly frustrating. You wanna figure out which person is which when they're all sharing the same fake names? It truly is crazy at this point.
As I've said, many employers are constrained by the law. Those that knowingly employ illegals? I've got no problem spanking them hard........but it's still the Govt that's been looking the other way for decades. Our local police chief came out in favor of drivers licenses for them since they 'were going to be driving anyway'. That's Govt endorsed policy.
Gee, I wonder if I've wiped out any Illegals with my wanton disregard for the lives of others?

Illegals are a problem. I'm just looking for a way to fix it before they even think of coming here rather than bitching about it once they are.
I guess I'd rather try to deal with the 20 million that are here rather than the 22 million that will be here next year of the 24 million that will be here the year after that.*
*not real numbers... just an illustration
