Faith, Freedom, Fear: Rural America’s Covid Vaccine SkepticsResistance is widespread in white, Republican communities like this one in Appalachia. But it’s far more complicated than just a partisan divide.
So there's nobody BUT white people opting to skip the shot? or being hesitant at all?

There's some racism there... and a lot of other bigotry as well. But in the end, I do see a lot of hypocrisy from that type of people. They say, "You live your life your way and I'll live mine. I don't need anyone trying to push their ways on me... and by the way, have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal lord and savior?" A little more honesty based on understanding would be great: "If it's God's will that I spread this disease around and kill my friends, family, and neighbors, then that's what I'll do! I'm an instrument of God's plan!!!" I haven't been vaccinated yet either and it IS because of a distrust of government... the Chinese government. I think my situation is a little different.

I'll just mention that maybe my specific area must have a strangely polite level of religious people?......... I've seen flyers and pamphlets and the occasional sales pitch, but it's never been an overly aggressive or rude push.
That has not been the case with the woke

White Supremacists ......Again! Washington Post Many police officers spurn coronavirus vaccines as departments avoid mandatesGlen Ridge Police Department officers wear protective face masks as they salute the funeral procession of their fellow officer Charles Roberts, after the 45-year-old father of three died of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, U.S., May 14, 2020. REUTERS/Mike Segar Isaac Stanley-Becker Sun, May 2, 2021, 2:45 PM Police officers were among the first front-line workers to gain priority access to coronavirus vaccines. But their vaccination rates are lower than or about the same as those of the general public, according to data made available by some of the nation's largest law enforcement agencies. The reluctance of police to get the shots threatens not just their own health but the safety of people they're responsible for guarding, monitoring and patrolling, experts say.

I'm never going to invest 24 minutes listening to this tool Oliver. Does he ever get around to thanking Trump for Operation Warp Speed?

Trump gets no credit whatsoever. The current 'writers of history' are only allowing negative commentary. THIS is the problem as I see it when it comes to political coverage now.
And not one apology or retraction about all of the scoffing and incorrect predictions on their part? F 'em and their families. Here's me hoping Oliver, Colbert, Kimmel and all the rest die a slow choking covid death........ they deserve it.

Trump doesn't deserve credit for anything positive during the pandemic. Do you think Operation Warp Speed was his idea? He probably only agreed to do it if people would SAY it was his idea. The man was, is, and always will be a fucking moron.
I doubt those guys will get Covid. They're wearing masks, washing their hands, and social distancing... like Trump should have told everyone to do in January 2020.

wow
It wasn't his idea........but he gave the people/private companies the leeway to run and come up with a vaccine ..........while the media and other 'experts' insisted it was not doable by the end of 2020. Again.....no apologies? No retractions? Nothing but sarcastic criticisms?
I got covid in about the 9th month of this so called 'lock down'. I laughed even harder about a Walmart worker I know who has been freaking out about it since the beginning.......she just got her 2nd shot and was out sick for 4-5 days with a +104 temp. I suggested that she may have been happier and better off just getting covid months ago the more natural way. Plenty of people wearing masks and washing their hands have come down with covid. It's clear it is more contagious than regular viruses.

Signing his name is worthy of erecting statues in praise? C'mon.
And I've been following the rules too and haven't had it (knock wood). I'm betting that those people who got it but claim to have been following the rules simply missed following a rule somewhere along the line.
As for you having had, it: I'm glad you didn't die from it. I also hope that they people you inevitably passed it on to didn't die either, but the odds are that you were probably some dead person's "patient zero."
I know you don't care about that dead person, because they should have responsibly bootstrapped themselves into a healthier state of being, right?

did I mention statues? Those will all be torn down eventually anyway, right? I'm looking forward to MLK and Obama statues eventually being torn down now, as well.
I think you can be doing everything right.......... but all it takes is one person within your area to not be doing it right to mess up your whole plan. THAT's what people do. Do you wanna know how much pollution/medical waste I've seen in parking lots and grocery carts since these lockdowns began? (discarded masks) I scoffed at this typical human behavior almost immediately after the shut downs began.
Odds are I've been somebody's patient zero in the past too........during the annual cold & flu season. Just as the people that infected me were my patient zeroes. There's the rub with collective living.
Don't take my apathy that far, please. You don't like words put into your mouth. The elderly and truly vulnerable have no control over their susceptibilities. I just don't believe in taking away rights and freedoms with this nonsensical argument and promise of security. Did you even catch the latest photo of the Bidens with the Carters? The Carters looking as tiny and frail as can be.........and nobody is wearing masks. But we're all supposed to say "Gosh, isn't that just neat and refreshing to have such compassion and care back in the White House."?
Jimmy was probably the most dignified and respectable president since the 60s.........but his policies and beliefs are foolish, imo. They certainly haven't improved most of the deepest Blue areas in the US. (Aside from the homes that he and Habitat have personally built for individuals)

Sometime hyperbole is used for the sake of making a point.
Here's some more: your right to kill me shouldn't supersede my right to life... especially when the rules are protecting your right to life as well.
If the majority of people could be trusted to do the right things at the right times, there'd be no need for stringent (temporary) measures, but as long as there are people like you in the world...

ouch Sorry, man, but it's true. Just look at the countries where the people people just put on masks and did the distancing thing when they were told to do so. Even if China is fudging the numbers, to match America's experience (with the lower numbers) of 10% infected and 2% of those people dying there would have to be almost 3 million dead in China. Trust me, no matter how well the CCP controls the media, we would have noticed.
South Korea hasn't had it anywhere near as bad as the US... health-wise or even economically despite the downturn in travel and tourism. I'm not saying they didn't get hurt at all. I'm saying they're in better shape than the US.
SK's infection rate is about 0.25% and the mortality rate is 1.5%.
If the US had those numbers there'd only be about 12,500 dead Americans instead of almost 600,000.
And all you had to do was cover your face near other people and not stand so close to them... things we do automatically when someone coughs or sneezes anyway.
"You sick? OK. You stand over there!"
Duh!
What freedom would you have lost from last January to last March or April by wearing a mask and keeping your distance other than the freedom to watch people die needlessly?
Don't talk about lockdowns. I'm telling you how we could have avoided them in the first place.
Blah blah government control blah blah force blah
You live in a world with other people and like it or not, when you do, you're bound by the basic social contract to keep each other safe. That's why pretty much all of the "good laws," that I'm sure we'd mostly agree on, all have to do with punishing people who break that contract.
If you believe that your right to not protect your family, your neighborhood... your country is so fucking important, then you really don't belong among other human beings.

Word over here was China literally locked people into buildings and even welded doors shut. That's a convenient level of control to have when you wanna keep transmittable diseases from getting out too far. THAT was never going to happen here......as we have too many freedom lovers and criminals (2 sides of the same coin?)
Absolutely agree with you on S Korea. We're a pretty unhealthy country. Obesity being a HUGE factor in that. The front page of the paper today has a local politician getting his shot........from a morbidly obese nurse that's probably pushing well over 240 pounds.
You''ll be happy to learn a newer study is suggesting the CDC undersold the death count and it should really be over 900,000. I'm still calling BS on the 600,000. I guess we'll all just continue to believe what we will.
As always, I have no issue with people protecting themselves. In the past, present or future......if people wanna wear a mask wherever they go during cold & flu season, or all year long.......doesn't bother me. But to expect/mandate everyone else? No, thanks.
I've lost the ability to shop when and where I want. I've seen thousands of businesses shut down and likely never open back up. I've see tons of people out of work, getting unemployment in excess of what they were ever making before Covid.......and NOW they don't even wanna bother going back to work until the gravy train runs out.
I live in a world with other people that go out of their way to make themselves and other unsafe all the time. No matter the govt program or intellectual approach, that is not and will not change any time soon.
I'd love to hear how you're going to eliminate people like me from that equation? And even if you could.........how would you more importantly remove the even more criminally minded types that have always done what they want no matter the rules or laws? Cuz that's the reality I'm looking at. I don't like throwing good effort or money at futility.

2. What does obesity have to do with wearing masks to avoid spreading disease? Stay on topic.
3. "It's a ll a hoax!" Is that what you're going with? Do you think that 587,500 deaths were just made up out of thin air?

1. No....... I'm simply telling you what has been reported HERE about what happened THERE. You can dispute it if you like....... I'd take your word for it. I was also pointing out that the Chinese Govt has an awful lot more power and control over it's people by the inherent differences between the 2 countries.
2. It has to do with overall health. Unhealthy people are much more susceptible to things like the flu or Covid. As the US is filled with obese and unhealthy people, I'd expect us to have worse numbers than quite a few other countries.
3. I'm going with "I don't trust my lying Govt".....maybe I see them as one giant boy crying wolf?
4. Those businesses didn't have the option of staying open and fending for themselves.....unless they were Walmart or Amazon, of course. Stop cursing, ya big meaney.
5. I'd be glad to help with the final solution.
6. I'll be gone before too long. Despite all of it's promises and offers, I suspect the Govt won't be able to keep me alive for another 50 years even.
I get that you care more than I do. That's a given.
