by vocation?
A professor's criticism/dismissal of police as a threat to her life and safety got me wondering......... which is the most corrupt workplace?
I've heard numbers like 400,000+ US citizens die every year from medical mistakes. Are doctors and nurses more corrupt than police?
I keep seeing banks and other lending institutions referred to as 'predatory'. Are they worse?
As a percentage, it's tough to imagine anyone being more corrupt than career politicians, no? They spend most of their time soliciting support($Money)

How the ever-loving fuck are you equating medical malpractice with corruption?
Well, for starters....... I figured some people might only wanna consider 'mistakes' that actually led to a death.
For seconders....... I actually had a former classmate, a neurosurgeon, that was sent to prison for implanting counterfeit parts in people's spines.
I'm simply talking about people consciously doing things illegally. Isn't that corrupt? I could bring up city workers that play games to get each other massive amounts of OT or local university faculty that were caught 'double dipping' if you'd prefer.

isn't this the root of most of these discussions?
A lot of the theoretical ideas might actually work ........but for the few bad apples. And those are consistent in every group of humans. Doesn't seem to matter the race, even. Though some might argue the percentages are a bit glaring....... but I don't really care about such accusations.
There's times I'm the bad apple, too

Those bad apples will continue to be bad apples. We shouldn't let them influence how we see an entire profession unless the bad apples start to outnumber the good apples such as in the case of politicians.
In the case of doctors, you mentioned 400,000 deaths per year from medical malpractice. I did some quick looking and that number is at the extreme high end and is theoretical (projected based on assumptions rather than actual facts). The real number generally moves between 150,000 and 250,000 per year. Those latter numbers are still alarming, but far fewer deaths are caused by "blatant disregard" as opposed to human fallibility. I therefore dismiss your premise of "corruption."

Exactly. I don't view most teachers as scumbag, pedos milking the tax payers while doing nothing........ just some.
I'm fine no matter which number you use as by comparison to police arrests/deaths.......... it still looks pretty good for the cops. No?
Hey! Where's my appeals opportunity? Ant? you two are kinda biased against me already.
I was actually just curious how many other occupation we might come up with. Food service? Sex workers? Drug dealers? Car salesmen?

Corruption (of the type you're talking about), by definition, requires two parties colluding.

Well, I could insanely argue that those who continually commit crimes and resist arrest are in some bizarre way colluding with the systemically racist police in the US to allow those cops to satiate their blood lust for POC. Though, isn't it weird how that doesn't apply to all colors? Asians for instance? Or do the cops figure a certain segment of the criminal population already has that covered for them?

also, in that case....... I could point out the chain of connections between student borrowers.......college loan providers........the universities.....etc
or in a similar way........ the typical insured person......the insurance provider.......the medical provider......... the govt involvement on so many levels....etc
This is what's kinda funny about blaming just one person or group in these large scale endeavors.

If your argument is that the victims are actually colluding with the victimizers by allowing themselves to be victims then I will simply point out that you have created a circular - and therefore, fallacious argument.

Can we not agree that there are actually plenty of defective people out there that do prefer abusive relationships?
Whether it's the woman that loves a good beating to be sure that she's valued/loved by her beater?
Or the drug user that requires a dealer to provide them what they need to ultimately ruin their entire life?
I can see where differing opinions might assign blame at levels to be argued over........... but it's not something that should just be dismissed or glossed over, is it?
I was recently watching Bill Burr again and I'm reminded of his bit mocking the phrase "There's never a reason to hit a woman." Now we can all be civilized and agree hitting other people (female or not) is bad and shouldn't be done. But there's NEVER a good reason?

Interestingly, all of your examples have underlying medical and psychological disorders which make them easy targets for manipulation and abuse. They can be helped.
This is where you ask, "but do they want to be helped?"
Some might not, but it doesn't change the fact that there's an underlying physical and psychological problem that is NOT shared by others which inhibits their ability to seek help and get better.

I can find you many cases of people who opted for strip mall surgeries.....or even skipped off to places like Tijuana to save a few bucks. Did they value their lives? or make extremely risky choices? And that's not even covering all of the poor doctors out there legally practicing. Weren't you the fella that always posted something about 'what do they call the physician that graduates last in his class?'
One surprising and glaring truth that I've stumbled upon in recent years............ it seems like pretty much 1/3 to maybe even over 1/2 of this country has underlying medical and psychological disorders. One more reason I see UHC as a black hole of good money being thrown away after bad.
There again, you often surprise me with your good intentions and caring nature for others.........despite being fully aware of just how defective many of these people really are. It's also the fundamental difference (I think) in how we view the role of govt and the nature of what society should be. I see it as charity and not a mandatory obligation in so many areas. Yet the govt, in it's desire to always grow, garner more power and intrude into more aspects of everyone's lives.......... demands and dictates more and more and more with each passing year. It's not even up for debate anymore.......yet, I still protest and do not agree in any way, shape or form. I know...... I know...... I'm shit outta luck cuz I'm outnumbered by those who choose to be coddled from cradle to grave and prefer the promise of security over the freedoms they take for granted. My bad and tough luck, I guess

1. It doesn't mean that they wanted to die. Just because you're cheap, doesn't mean you're colluding in a corrupt practice.
2. Disorders caused by shifting cultural norms rather than a simple "wiring" problem.
3. I think the difference is that I see the government lending assistance as mom and dad sending me book money while at college while you see it as mom and dad moving into your dorm room.
Hey. I think that was quite an apt comparison.

1. Don't they say the same thing about meth and heroin addicts? They didn't want to die........they just eventually accidentally overdosed.
2. Disorders? hmmmm........ sorta like there's no such thing as just plain stupid or retarded anymore? Everyone's got an ADHD or Autism diagnosis?
3. Is Govt either your Mom or Dad? I see it more as the creepy Uncle Sam that may be necessarily tolerated here and there.........but shouldn't be given free access to the house.

Having a disease that will most likely lead to an untimely death is not the same as colluding in corruption no matter how much you try to bang that square peg into a round hole.
2. Maybe I should have put "disorders" in quotes....
3. You just couldn't see the analogy for what it was, could you?

1. Have you ever seen my hammer?

3. You gotta remember..........even Mom % Dad don't swell up all warm and comforting emotions in my past. That's another area I just do not understand abusive behavior....leading to future abusive behavior against others. Especially while I'm accused of being abusive when I'm simply grossly apathetic.
