Cypress College professor berates student who called police ‘heroes’Dave Huber - Associate Editor •May 1, 2021 If you’re thinking about going into teaching, here’s an example of what not to do. During a virtual communications class, an adjunct professor at Cypress College (near Anaheim, California) argued with student Braden Ellis, who in a presentation (ironically, about cancel culture) referred to police officers as “heroes.” According to The Daily Wire, Ellis brought up how anti-cop activists had wanted to cancel the kid’s show “Paw Patrol” because it portrayed officers in a positive light. Following Ellis’s report, the unidentified professor used up most of the question-answer session to scold him. “I mean, honestly … the issue is systemic,” the prof said. “Because the whole reason we have police departments in the first place, where does it stem from? What’s our history? Going back to what [another classmate] was talking about, what does it stem from? It stems from people in the south wanting to capture runaway slaves.” MORE: Amherst College students stage walkout, call for police abolition When a classmate said perhaps cops shouldn’t be on shows meant for children, Ellis reiterated his opinion that cops are “heroes.” The prof jumped in: “ All of them? A lot of police officers have committed atrocious crimes and have gotten away with it and have never been convicted of any of it. And I say [it] as a person that has family members who are police officers.” When Ellis indicated that, of course, bad cops should be “brought to justice,” the professor interrupted with “They haven’t.” Ellis ended up by asking “Who do we call when we’re in trouble and someone has a knife or a gun?” The professor’s replied with “I wouldn’t call the police. I don’t trust them. My life’s in more danger in their [presence]. I wouldn’t call anybody.”Cypress College told the New York Post this was the professor’s first course at Cypress, and that she would be “taking a leave of absence” for the remainder of the semester. It also said the prof would not be coming back in the fall as was “her intention.”
You think this prof would ever give a lecture on the percentage of teachers that commit crimes and harm other people?

I think the prof should remember that if one bad apple spoils the bunch then she just spoiled all college professors.

I think she should at least be granted her wish and have her phone number forever blocked by all policing agencies.

A New Jersey teacher has been suspended after cursing at Black students and calling George Floyd a "f—g criminal" in a vile Zoom rant, NBC New York reported. Howard Zlotkin's online class on climate change to Dickinson High School pupils descended into an offensive rant about the Black Lives Matter movement, the media outlet said. "I hear people whining and crying about Black Lives Matter, but George Floyd was a f—g criminal and he got arrested and he got killed because he wouldn't comply and the bottom line is we make him a f—g hero," the Jersey City teacher is heard saying in a recording. Zlotkin also reportedly picked on four Black pupils, including 17-year-old Timmia Williams, and demanded those students write an essay. After Williams refused to comply, the teacher berated her. "I don't think you can make a case. You know what, Timmia? You're full of s—t too," Zlotkin is heard saying. Williams was in tears after the incident on Wednesday and reported Zlotkin to the school and local board of education, NBC New York said. "She was crying. She came to me, tells me, 'Mom why is it there's a problem with my skin?'" Margie Nieves, William's mother, told the media outlet. Williams and Nieves did not receive an immediate reply from authorities and were shocked to see Zlotkin return to teach a class a day later, NBC News said. During the video conference, Zlotkin also aired his grievances on privilege. "If you think I'm privileged then f— you, because my daughter thinks I'm privileged and I don't speak to her," he is heard saying. Jersey City Public Schools said Friday in a statement to NBC News that Zlotkin has been suspended from teaching. "The school was in the process of taking statements from students today before proceeding with disciplinary actions, and then the second video surfaced," the statement said. "The teacher will not have access to students or the school as we proceed. We are appalled by the statements, profanity, disrespect, and treatment of students." www.yahoo.com/news/teacher-suspended-berating-black-students-111028465.html?.tsrc=fp_deeplink

Would that require showing that G. Floyd had engaged in intercourse AND had a criminal record?

I don't know why the topic of George Floyd would be brought up during a lecture on climate change....

Seems like yet another case where we're not being given all of the details that led up to the explosive remarks/actions.
Ya think anyone did a study on the amount of carbon credits used up with each burned to the ground police station?

Don't worry. We'll just create carbon credits out of thin air the same way we do money.

I'm laughing thinking about all the studies on cow farts............ meanwhile we're sailing quickly past 7 Billion people?

Almost 8 now
8 billion people tearing down mountains for the resources to build new mountains of glass and steel. Mountains of glass and steel encroaching on areas needed to feed the people living in those mountains. Rivers and lakes drying up as the mountains of stone are reduced to rubble destroying the water supplies needed for irrigating the farms. Forests being burned for both making way for new cities and for new farms that will never have the capacity to feed the cities. Tearing down mountains and burning forests displace thousands of species. Some will die out and some will find a way to eek out a living closer to humanity and those animals will bring their diseases with them.
I could go on and on and never bring up "climate change," but tearing down mountains, drying up rivers, and burning down forests HAS to have an effect on climate.
Every species adversely affects their environment in some way. That's why many species migrate or live in ecological symbiosis with animal or plant species that naturally replenish what others destroy. When a species' population becomes a danger to the eco-system, we cull the herd. Ask any hunter. Ask any ecologist dealing with invasive species.
Humans ARE the invasive species and the herd NEEDS to be culled if we actually want it to survive.
Back in the 70's when it was all about "Global Cooling" and the "coming Ice Age" people were quick to point out over-population and many decided to have fewer children or none at all. Now we scream, "Think about the children!" and "What about the poor?!"
You can save humanity or the Earth but not both. In fact, saving the former will doom the latter... at least as far as being a home to the former is concerned.
Earth needs an enema.
Earth needs Thanos.

One thing I've loved about the push for space exploration and movies like Elysium/Blade Runner/Wall-E......... I figure it's gonna be hilariously consistent in how the poor will still be left behind
Will they call it the Space Gap?

We'll bring along enough poor to do the heavy-lifting such as in "The Expanse."
But that's a long way away regardless of what Musk and Bezos want us to believe. THIS is the world we've got and THIS is the world that we need to fix. There's no sense exploring the solar system, let alone the galaxy if all we're going to do is export the same stupidity.
Thanos' culling was random... impartial. I see the "equality" of it but I don't see any advantage in the possibility of potentially wiping out the half of humanity that actually can get shit done.
I think I'm more a fan of something a bit more "Logan's Run" just not with such an early cut-off and certainly with the ability to make exceptions for the exceptional.
