Any good cherry recipes? I just bought a buttload of them. Sweet or sour ? . I think they’re sweet. They were on sale at the grocery store. I didn’t want to deal with making a pie crust. Maybe I’ll do a crisp…

sour on left / sweet on right

Sweet cherries in the stores are usually either Bing or Ranier. Usually just eat them fresh. Got some on sale for $1.49 at Aldi's last week and they are almost finished up.
I buy frozen "pie cherries" already sweetened with sugar in a 20 lb pail --- used to be a metal can but now it's plastic. Defrost them just enough to divvy them up into quart containers for pies.
BUT... this year a somewhat forgotten tree in the orchard revealed itself to be a sour pie cherry ..probably a Montmorency AND I beat the robins to enough fruit to make one fresh pie, one frozen pie and one large batch for jam all sweetened and ready to cook up when it gets cooler.

Nice! I love cherries - and they have lots of vitamin C and anti-oxidants.

Accidentally left a couple of pits in the home picked cherries used in the pie but luckily didn't bite down on them.
Will be extra careful eating the next one ..when ever it gets made.

I ended up not making anything the cherries - I’ve been bringing them to work everyday and snacking on them for lunch because I never have time for lunch. *sigh*
The grocery store had some yummy looking plums this week, so I think I’ll be snacking on that this week

Fresh eating is what I usually do with the sweet cherries. The birds got all the rest of the Sour Cherries in the orchard. Nothing left on the tree now but some stems with pits on them. Tree in better days...
