Yahoo Finance Biden to raise minimum wage for federal contractors to $15 an hourJessica Smith·Chief Political Correspondent Tue, April 27, 2021, 8:20 AM Demonstrators gather for a protest calling for a $15-an-hour nationwide minimum wage in downtown Chicago, Illinois, United States, April 14, 2016. REUTERS/Jim Young President Joe Biden will sign an executive order on Tuesday requiring federal contract workers to make at least $15 an hour. As his efforts to increase the national minimum wage to $15 an hour stalled in Congress, the executive order could impact hundreds of thousands of people who are working on federal contracts — giving a raise to low-wage workers including food service workers on military bases and maintenance workers in government buildings.
=========================================
1. Does it seem likely that most of those demonstrators were already federal employees/contractors?
2. Payoff to Unions?
3. As an aside, went thru Taco Bell drive-thru last nite......they're now ponying up $11/hr right off the bat WITH a $750 Signing Bonus.

If Grandpa Sniffy keeps his current pace, he'll be at ~456 after 4 years. Of course I think this is understandable seeing as how that he has to issue orders to undo the more idiotic orders enacted by Donnie Dimwit

1. The struggle has been a long time coming.
2. I learned how many union deals were tied to the Minimum Wage/Automatic bumps in pay.
3. Taco Bell in this area has been paying about $2 more than minimum for years just trying to get workers in the door.
Weird how EOs are the actions of dictators......unless there's a (D) after their name

1. We Shall Never Overcome
2. I just heard it was the federally contracted unions. Whenever the Minimum gets a bump.....they do too automatically. Unlike people in the 'real' world who take it in the shorts after working to get bumps in pay thru hard work and attendance.
3. F'n A, Cotton
4. Off to the camps with them!

2. During this Doc on E-cigs, they claimed China makes people out of high school work farms to earn their pay for college? We're really not privy here to how other countries actually work.
4. At least the showers are FREE. (too soon?)

2. The claim was simply that young educated people were required to work on farms to pay for continued education. I'd assume it was for anyone with good grades, but no family money, that wanted to further their education? Seems like it wasn't that long ago that's pretty much how people in the US handled things. (Before the Govt started handing out loans) The Chinese Govt was also heavily invested in tobacco.
4. All that matters is if it makes you laugh......and if it don't, you shrug, move on and hope for a better line next time. Ricky Gervais has some excellent Nazi jokes, by the way

2. I've never heard of it, but my experience with the goings-on in the countryside is a bit limited.
4. Exactly

2. So you're just getting the limited view/tour? Like Bernie visiting the USSR or Cuba? I'm guessing there's some truth to the claims, but likely a biased take as well. Mao supposedly supported sending out youth into the countryside way back when, too......... why we'd be surprised they expected it today in some form to help provide the means necessary to supply the rest of the country is beyond me.

I'm not restricted from viewing the countryside or even working there. I just simply haven't done much of either there. Maybe I'll retire to the countryside in a few years and be the local oddity....
Mao certainly did like "sending down" the youth to learn to appreciate the life of the farmer... and to understand that they'd never get back to the cities if they didn't straighten up and fly right. Xi Jinping, himself, was "sent down" in his youth when his father didn't toe the line with Mao. That experienced is what's shaping the present, both domestically and internationally.

You'll likely be the oddity no matter where
There really is a strong truth to the notion that 'good honest work' in places like farms can be a major life lesson. If you don't want to sweat and toil your whole life, you'd better find an education/trade that pays you to do other things. It's just that simple.
Now convincing the majority of people to accept that most really aren't cut out for much more than menial jobs? That's a whole nother discussion.
Is this reality a form of classism? Exploitation? Modern day slavery? I guess it all depends on where you're sitting.

1. True
2. True
3. Well, if the work results in your education being paid for, you might as just call it "a work-study program." That's how I paid for my high school tuition.

That reminds me of a joke meme I saw recently........but it's all the more funny with your reality.
They supported FREE college for everyone.
But you had to pay for high school first and actually pass in order to move on.
