but it seems that the Bieber kid is under fire for "cultural appropriation" due to his new hairstyle... which look a bit like dreadlocks.

Let's break this into 2 parts so it doesn't get confusing.

Do "dreads" belong to black culture?

No. There's ample evidence that dreads were worn by many cultures going back thousands of years to the Indians, Mesopotamians, Africans, and Europeans. The popularity of dreads in recent years can be traced to the Rastafari movement which is less than 100 years old and was not widely known in the US until the 50's and 60's. Rastas wear dreads because they are emulating not only African shaman (the only members of most African tribes allowed to wear dreads) but also using some verses from the Bible... the same verses that have Hassidic Jewish men wearing those curly "locks" on the sides of their heads.

So is Bieber "appropriating culture"?

Yes and no.

"No" for the reasons stated above.

"Yes" because he's trying to pretend he's "woke" and standing in solidarity. He's just pretending in order to make money... and it backfired.

But in the end, it's just hair and people can wear it any fucking way they want. If you don't like it, go to the trademark office and apply. And in the meantime, stop straightening your hair and wearing blue and green contacts. Stop appropriating our culture.

This is where someone usually chimes in with being forced to conform... slavery... blah blah blah. It's 2021. No one is forcing you to conform... except places with dress codes... that everyone has to follow. Get over it.
