C) Really? But it's 'for the children'.
Everyone wants to make their mark.........trying something different. I don't necessarily disagree with new things if the olde hasn't worked.........but your situation just plain sounds like a lack of bodies to help and regulations/restrictions on what you're allowed to do with whackos. I do not envy you. I also think a good many 'bleeding heart' types should be forced to do some community service in those areas........so maybe they'd get a real dose of reality for once.
The guy in the loin cloth? Completely drug induced BTW. He was discharged a couple days later, nicest guy ever. Don't do drugs, kids. You'll end up some fucked up urban Tarzan in my ER.
merh loves telling me all about the 'disease' of drug addiction and how so many people are simply self-medicating themselves.
I just see it as millions of people who love to be high.........and we're humoring and worse, enabling them.

So we recently got a new CEO, same one who shut down the shift bonuses. She thinks she's going to pull nurses from the floors to the ER to be an admission nurse. A) This is against our contract with the union. We can't get pulled from our unit so the union will be grieving this. B) There aren't enough nurses to pull from the floors to do this. There really won't be now that the shift bonuses were axed. C) I'm not doing it. Half the ER admissions are pediatrics, and if I want to deal with psycho kids I just go visit my own, I'm not dealing with anybody else's. D) They want aggressive patient admissions done on the units they're being admitted to. For example: there was a guy running around the city in a loin cloth carrying a mallet and a butcher knife. He ended up in our ER and before the meds kicked in he masturbated to completion on an ER window. He came up to us in four points, but heavily medicated. I guess we'll now be devoting staff to having patients in seclusion for those behaviors because our ER, that does next to nothing now, will be doing even less? I hate regime changes. They always come on with these big ideas. This bitch thinks she's turning this dump into a magnet status hospital 🤣 And I thought my 11-year stint in a toxic company sucked. You win! Hopefully the union will intervene. And if enough staff quit over this, she will be in trouble big time... she may not last long.

Legalize all drugs.......... still hold people responsible for their crimes, high or not..........and tough love.

True. I say throw 'em all in the slammer and put 'em to work for 13¢ an hour so big corporations can pay rock bottom prices for the shit they need. You and Joe Biden, man.

I'm on my third 12-hour shift. And it's been nothing but security on the unit and patient seclusion, and Dr. Susie Creamcheese tge covering psychiariast that's really no help. Yeah, I know this patient thinks every problem he has is due to being poisoned by digoxin and the attending psychiatrist is being paid to try and kill him by Russians, but an hour and a half after his second dose of Zyprexa, he broke out in a rash and hives on both legs. No one has any fucks to give, including my unit manager when I asked who the next doctor is in the chain of command to escalate the concern, because I, ME, MYSELF have no fucks to give about butthurt psychiatrists.
My whole body aches. I want a vacation from life and not to be me for awhile.

However, would you prefer a weekend stay at a posh hotel with room service, or a long weekend stay at a remote cabin in the woods? Or would you just prefer to have a hot bath, a warm meal and 48 hours sleep?

It was interesting to find out that contributed to his death. They're doing a ketamine study where I work, testing it on patients who have made suicide attempts.

I am only familiar with its use in horses, but know that humans have used it, with mostly bad results. It is also dicey when being used on goats. My male goat had a blocked urethra and needed surgery to fix the issue. This was done as an emergency on a Sunday night with one of the large animal vets up at the clinic. Dr. Ron is a big guy, and pretty tough, but even I had to lend a hand in trying to anesthetize the goat. FINALLY it kicked in, and the surgery was successful, but getting him out of the Ketamine-induced sleep took forever, even with the reversing drug administered. There we both were, exhausted from struggling with the goat, wallowing around on the floor, trying to get the goat to wake up. Happy ending, the goat survived and is healthy and happy. But Ketamine is flaky stuff.

I think the term with human use is "microdosing." It's a much smaller amount. I know some hospitals are also trialing what we know as ecstasy and microdoses of magic mushrooms PTSD in veterans with some success.

A lot of times the police bring them in for bizarreness, but they sober up and get discharged, lol. I love goats, and baby goats are just adorable. I've been butted in the ass a couple times though, and they mean business when they're irritable! Have you evet seen Home On The Range? This is my favorite cartoon goat, lol.

gardengirl1953I don't know if you're familiar with Tony Baker, but he does voice-overs to animal videos and he's HILARIOUS. I'm not sure what country this is in, or why this goat is so pissed off, but I feel like he's reading the goat's mind, lol.

I saw a quick glimpse of a juvenile goat, I wonder if the big goat is a mama, protecting her young! My two older goats like to head butt each other, and my little goat, not quite a year, yet, has his own pen so the big ones don't head butt him! They are great weed eaters, and as funny as they can be!

They don’t have security on your floor? That’s nuts No, but TBF, security is good about getting to the unit QUICK when a personal alarm goes off. And when somone hits a personal alarm an overhead light system starts blinkinging all over the unit and a buzzer starts going that can be heard on the floors above and below. It alerts the rest of the staff to what's happening and often the patient engaging in the behavior will be startled enough to stop what they're doing long enough for other staff to get there. My unit is the most acute, but we're supposed to have a psychiatric ICU (less patients, more staff, less stimulation, security guard stationed on the unit). They turned it into a Covid unit. So now my unit has all the ICU-appropriate patients without the extra staff or security 🤨😐 Honestly though, I really enjoy my work. I'm good with these patients.
