Many positions of employment require certain educational qualifications, specific personal attributes and traits, or provable previous experience... So I'm constantly surprised - and disappointed - by the fact that just about anyone can get elected to a position of authority and power with a little more than luck and a few lies. Perhaps it's time to introduce a few mandatory pre-requisites that must be met before someone can run for public office... at least at a state or federal level. |

Many positions of employment require certain educational qualifications, specific personal attributes and traits, or provable previous experience... So I'm constantly surprised - and disappointed - by the fact that just about anyone can get elected to a position of authority and power with a little more than luck and a few lies. Perhaps it's time to introduce a few mandatory pre-requisites that must be met before someone can run for public office... at least at a state or federal level. But that breaks from the notion of government being "of the people."
I simply support bringing civics classes back to schools... and make passing them mandatory for advancement to the next grade.

Not really, he was an ass. Wasted a few years trying to change him, realized it wasn't happening, and moved onto the next ass. It took years for me to stop being naive and trusting.
