Conspicuous consumption is not new. When I was a child it was known as "Keeping up with the Joneses" Fat was seen as good in decades past because it meant one had the money to eat well & not work hard. |

Conspicuous consumption is not new. When I was a child it was known as "Keeping up with the Joneses" Fat was seen as good in decades past because it meant one had the money to eat well & not work hard.
was Orwell's big warnings about conspicuous consumption and capitalism? or something very different?
Even that........Fat. It was a bit different. You didn't have +400 pounders or more unless it was a circus sideshow

Ever take a gander at paintings? Renaissance or around then? Don't know about you, but voluptuous suggests a bit if flab on those gals because that was considered sexy. More cushion for the pushin Orwell was about control. Do you think we are all that body snatchers lock step? If we were, wouldn't every damned movie made make bank? All product would sell at acceptable levels so companies wouldn't fail? We aren't the lemmings you imagine we are Is that another ego boost you use? |

There may have been some chubbies...........but nothing like we have today. Our fatties get so fat, they can't move anymore........and people STILL bring them more food.
Well, one side is certainly better at organizing and rioting, sorry, I meant protesting, than the others.
Why would they all make bank? You can't get it thru your heads that NOT EVERYONE AGREES
My ego has nothing to do with it. Some people view this existence as a collective FIRST and Individuals last. I view it the opposite. So I don't agree.
