"Covid lockdowns cost lots of hardworking Americans their jobs! The government is bad!"
"Yeah! Now we have lots more homeless people who need our help!"
Republicans: "Homeless? Ewww. Keep them over there under that bridge. THEY should have shown Personal Responsibility (TM) and been prepared for an emergency!"
"But don't those people deserve our help?"
"Nope. When they owned stuff, they were our peers. Now they are beneath us. It's like how we don't want poor people to be able to abort babies they can't take care of just so we can NOT help take care of them either. We only care about business owners, landlords, and the people who didn't lose quite everything."
"Sooo... middle and upper-class white people?"
"Now you're catching on!"

Obviously Covid didn't affect somebody's lung capacity (or typing ability)

You're just not able to talk with others that aren't Dems?
Seems odd

Not about anything political, or religious. I'm an agnostic atheist secular humanist vegetarian. In my neck of the woods, them's fightin' words. I can discuss the weather... except when they start saying that climate change is a hoax. I can discuss inflation... until they blame it on Biden. I can discuss how they are feeling, physically... until they proudly proclaim themselves anti-vaxxers and anti-science. I can discuss how the crops are doing... but not how many of the cattle herd were sold for slaughter. I can't discuss my Toyota Hybrid with people who generally drive pumped-up Ford F250s. We won't even think about the abortion issue... I am pro-choice, though I would probably never opt for abortion myself. Good thing that at my age, it's a moot point. Got any ideas of what I could discuss? Seriously, I could use some help, here.

Political or religious? Seems that just about everything is political today. And religion? I talk with a bigtime Bible thumper who knows I do not share his beliefs. We get along fine on several other subjects though......and I just let the Bible passages slide on by. I'd probably take more of an issue with you because of the veganism.
The climate changes. Everyone knows that. The Govt's suggested approach and cure? That's probably the hoax area you're mentioning.
You haven't noticed that certain administrations have very similar results? That market prices and reactions tend to follow trends? THAT no matter who is in office, the truly wealthy just keep making bank?
I used to join in mocking the anti-vaxxers when it was for polio, measles, whooping cough, etc.........but this thing? That ain't no vaccine. It's a booster.......and not the most effective one ever produced.
You don't think PlantLivesMatter?
I sold my Toyota Prius to some friends because I felt they'd benefit much more than me from the high MPHs. Plus, it gave me a big cushion of cash to bide my time waiting on the new Prius coming out. I'm not a fan of the large vehicles.........you against all of the SUV obsession this country seems to have embraced, too?
Not THAT is an interesting thread starter/conversation to have. You couldn't see doing it yourself? I'm curious about the WHY there. I'm pro-choice, not a fan of Planned Parenthood, but I do wish people would just admit that their opting to end a potential human life. The semantics game has grown very old to me.
There's also movies, literature, hobbies, gardening, outdoor activities, indoor activities, stand up comedians......... I could probably think of more

"The climate changes. Everyone knows that. The Govt's suggested approach and cure? That's probably the hoax area you're mentioning."Climate change is proven. The government's suggested approach and cure has not been proven. "You haven't noticed that certain administrations have very similar results? That market prices and reactions tend to follow trends? THAT no matter who is in office, the truly wealthy just keep making bank?"
Yeah, agree with you there, to an extent. Which is why I don't get as wound up over it as much as I used to. I've been on a politics discussion board a little too long. Yes, I am basically a Democrat, and not a Republican, but I am not going to riot over it. One of my Republican friends thinks of me more as a centrist. (Yes, I actually have a friend that is Republican, but we agree to disagree). Is my one blue vote going to make a difference in the predominantly red state I live in? Probably not, but I still vote. "I'd probably take more of an issue with you because of the veganism vegetarianism."1. Plants are not sentient beings that suffer; cow, pigs, chickens etc., can and do suffer if packed into feed lots and cages, and are conscious of danger when going to slaughter. 2. Vegans are whack jobs, probably from lack of protein. 3. My choice, and I don't force it on others. Only one of my friends is vegetarian, the others are omnivores. "I'm not a fan of the large vehicles.........you against all of the SUV obsession this country seems to have embraced, too?"
Yes, I am. There are a few instances where a huge vehicle is needed, but most people don't need all the room, weight and fuel. Expedition, Explorer... expensive. A status symbol. And the pumped-up pickups... Again, a status symbol. Working pickup have dents and dings. I live in an area where there are some working pickups, but quite a few that are all tricked out with blackout trim, or roll bars and bull bars, or images of flames on the body metal. But starting a discussion with any of them is like... starting a discussion here, except here I am anonymous and can't get punched in the face. "I'm pro-choice, not a fan of Planned Parenthood, but I do wish people would just admit that their opting to end a potential human life. The semantics game has grown very old to me."I am pro-choice, a fan of Planned Parenthood because they offer a wide range of services that help people, including ending a potential human life that is not sentient. Just because I couldn't make that choice is immaterial. But again, to each his or her own. And again, here I am anonymous, no one is going to vandalize my car or house. "There's also movies, literature, hobbies, gardening, outdoor activities, indoor activities, stand-up comedians......... I could probably think of moreMovies and literature choices often follow one's interests, like religion or skepticism. Or politics. I have one hobby I share with one friend (gardening) and other hobbies I share with another friend (quilting and other art and photography). Outdoor activities and inside activities also tend to follow one's interest, like religion, or skepticism or politics. I am not going hiking with a group of Christers that think God created everything in six days. Stand-up comedians - I think George Carlin's routine on 'the invisible friend.... up in the sky... that watches everything you do...' is a classic. Most atheists do. I have never been a fan of comedians as a whole, just George Carlin. In summation, these anonymous pro boards are about the only place I can just be myself without worries of complicating my life. I was raised to "go along to get along", and since I'm not much of a fan of in-person conflict, I tend to just stay under the radar IRL. I've always been a bit of a recluse and spend a lot of my time alone working on projects like home repair, my garden and milkweeds I grow for the Monarchs, and bottle-feeding baby kittens that were dumped somewhere to die because the humans involved are too cheap to have their cat spayed. Sometimes they are found, and another caring human gets them to the veterinary clinic, whose staff knows to call me. I get them to the age where they can be spayed or neutered, and the clinic finds adoptive homes for them. Lessening the suffering of sentient beings and reducing the pet overpopulation problem. But thank you for listening and offering suggestions. Let me know if you have any more topic suggestions.
