I was surprised that I liked it, more than the overhyped and overblown first effort.
A simple story which critics called a negative but I call a plus, allowing some scope for character development and appreciating the awesome graphics. James Cameron now lives in New Zealand and he introduced some Maori cultural aspects which could have been expanded on but wasn't. I suppose it was meant to be universal, not just a Maori experience.
There was a lost opportunity for a positive wrap to the story, sacrificed to a boring and poorly choreographed 1/2 hour shootemup to cater to the teen audience. The messy end cries out for more sequels of course. Cameron could hire Peter Jackson to do 3 more like he destroyed The Hobbit.

So it wasn't another "Dances with Pocahontas in Fern Gully"?

So it wasn't another "Dances with Pocahontas in Fern Gully"? No, it was more family fleeing the Nazis, shelter with a Maori tribe, use a coral reef for gee whiz graphics.

Apart from the last 20 minutes of badly choreographed gun mayhem, it is a nice family movie, better than Avatar 1. Some attempt at character development but an opportunity lost. What would you expect from Cameron except entertainment over adult themes. The 3D graphics are worth seeing for what technology can do.

That's the Cameron Way: Make a movie to showcase the latest SFX. I'll wait for a decent torrent to download... if I remember.
