SAN ANTONIO — A woman is in the hospital Thursday morning after police say she tried to break into her ex-girlfriend's home. According to police, the new girlfriend shot at her.

This happened just before midnight on Stonebridge on the northwest side of San Antonio.

Police say the two women who live in the home are in a relationship.

One of them left the house and that's when her ex tried to break in through the window.

Officers tell us the new girlfriend heard the break-in and shot at the ex-girlfriend.

The ex was taken to the hospital, but police couldn't confirm if she was actually hit by the bullets or just hurt by broken glass from the window.

The new girlfriend was taken in for questioning. 

No word on any criminal charges.

After it was originally suggested that a 10-year-old boy shot and killed his mother by mistake, family members have reportedly come forward with disturbing details about the child’s history and actions after the deadly incident.

The young defendant is now charged with first-degree reckless homicide, one of several crimes that default to adult court for defendants as young as 10. He allegedly carried out the act after his mother refused to buy him a VR headset, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Police said they received a call on Nov. 21 to the 7400 block of North 87th Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The boy allegedly claimed he took the gun from his mother’s bedroom down to the basement. As she was doing laundry, he was twirling it around his finger when it went off. His sister, age 26, called 911.

But family members stepped foward with disturbing details.

The boy allegedly told his aunt that he pointed the firearm at his mother.

“Why do you have that?” his mother reportedly said. “Put that down.”

The motive allegedly began to emerge on Nov. 22, the morning after the shooting, when the boy allegedly purchased the Oculus Virtual Reality Headset his mother would did buy. In addition, he allegedly attacked his 7-year-old cousin and had to be pulled off of the younger child. In this account, the aunt took the boy to his grandmother’s home to meet child welfare workers. The grandmother was crying.


“I’m really sorry for what happened,” he allegedly said with no empathy or compassion. “I’m sorry for killing my mom.”

Then he asked if his Amazon package arrived, police said.

Family also said the boy engaged in alarming behavior for years.

For example, he swung their puppy by the tail until the animal howled. His mother got rid of the dog, worried the animal would attack her son in self-defense. In another incident, the boy allegedly poured some kind of flammable liquid into a balloon. He set fire to it at home, causing an explosion and burning furniture and carpet. Asked by his mother why he did that, he allegedly said his “two sisters told him to do it.” He claimed to hear five imaginary people speaking to him: two sisters, an older woman, a man, and a “mean” man.

Family described the boy as having “rage issues.” He was smart and manipulative, they said. It got to the point where relatives refused to babysit him.

With this new information in mind, cops interviewed him again. The boy allegedly confessed to aiming the gun at his mother with both hands. He stated that he took the gun from the lockbox because his mother woke him up 30 minutes early and also would not allow him to buy something on Amazon, police said.

During the incident, he was in a shooting stance, he allegedly said. According to cops, he said that he mean to shoot a wall to “scare her,” but she walked in front of him.

Bail was set at $50,000. Prosecutors wanted it at $100,000.

“This is an absolute family tragedy,” his attorney Angela Cunningham told the outlet. “I don’t think anybody would deny or disagree with that.”

She said that the adult criminal justice system “is absolutely ill-equipped to address the needs of a 10-year-old child.”

I still remember being shocked at the high levels of domestic abuse amongst the lesbian community. Why not comment on the ladies here? 

by the by, I just watched a Netflix doc on the Texas Killing Field and it was very disturbing.......for the murders, for the doc itself and it's odd production and for the fact that they identified dozens of murder victims........ but then the end result was 2 different dudes responsible for about 6-8 of them? By my math, that tells me there's still quite a few serial killers at large.

An unnamed 15-year-old volunteer for Sen. Raphael Warnock's run-off election campaign was allegedly shot while knocking on doors in Savannah, local police said.

A Georgia man was arrested for allegedly shooting a 15-year-old boy who was at his front door campaigning for Sen. Raphael Warnock in his runoff election with Republican challenger Herschel Walker.

“At this point, there is no indication the shooting was politically motivated,” Savannah Police said in a statement.

Thursday’s shooting of the boy, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his leg, came five days before the runoff between the Democratic incumbent Warnock and the former football star Walker. Neither candidate received more than 50% of the vote in last month’s election.

Police said they responded to a Savannah residence at about 5:35 p.m. ET Thursday after receiving a report of gunfire. Officers found the 15-year-old boy, who had been shot in his leg.

“According to the preliminary investigation, the teen was campaigning for Raphael Warnock for the upcoming run-off election when the incident occurred,” police said.

“While at the front door of one of the residences on Hartridge Street, the suspect fired a shot through the closed door, striking the teen,” cops said.

The boy was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Police said officers quickly identified and located a suspect, 43-year-old Jimmy Paiz, at the residence.

Paiz was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery, both of which are felonies, according to cops. Paiz was being held in lieu of a $5,700 bond the Chatham County jail.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.

In a statement to NBC News sent by Warnock’s campaign, the senator said, “I am saddened to learn about this incident.”

“I am praying for the victim and their family and wish them a full recovery,” Warnock said.

On a LinkedIn page with Paiz’s name, he identifies himself as a retired veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served for nearly 17 years before leaving the service in 2014.

A Facebook post in 2020 by the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence features a portion of a podcast entitled “Picking Your Brain,” where a retired marine named Jimmy Paiz talks about being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder in connection with his service in Iraq. The center is a collaboration of the departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs to promote care for veterans suffering from brain injuries.

“Retired U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Jimmy Paiz’s experiences during his tours in Iraq left him struggling with #PTSD. Thanks to help from mental health providers, he now has an easier time coping with his day-to-day life,” the Facebook post says.

Paiz’s LinkedIn page describes himself as “an Honduran-American writer and maker living in Savannah, GA., although, originally from Metro, DC. — a beltway kid. I write prose poetically about the human condition, that is, existential ruminations about our species’ denial of its animal self, amongst other oddities and interests. Also, I art.”

In Germany, the film was such a huge success that its German title Der Rosenkrieg became synonymous with high-conflict divorce and is now regularly used in the media.

An ex-convict who led police on a chase around Las Vegas before officers found the severed head and dismembered body of his friend in a stolen vehicle he was driving was sentenced Thursday to at least 18 years in prison.

Eric John Holland said he was "truly remorseful" for killing Richard P. Miller, whose remains were found in coolers in the bed of a Chevrolet Avalanche in which Las Vegas police stopped Holland last December. Authorities found that Miller had been shot several times, including at least once in the head, before his body was carved up.

"It's a terrible thing that happened and I'm just so sorry," Holland said.

That provided little comfort to Miller's daughter, who tearfully and haltingly told a judge she felt "very little relief," that Holland pleaded guilty in July to a reduced charge and avoiding trial on an open murder charge that could have resulted in a life sentence behind bars.


"I don't know how to make sense of it," sobbed Amanda Dawn Potter, who traveled from Portland, Oregon, for Holland's sentencing. She called her father's slaying "the most bizarre thing to ever happen to my family."

"My dad didn't deserve this," she said.

Holland, 58, has an extensive criminal history, mostly for forgery and embezzlement, but also including an attempted prison escape in Texas.

Before Clark County District Court Judge Tierra Jones sentenced him to 18 to 45 years for second-degree murder and felony theft, Holland said Thursday he hoped authorities would continue to investigate his motive for killing Miller.

"I was going to bring it up in court, but I'm not going to because of family members," Holland said. "There was a reason, and I hope that they'll get closure today."

Holland's attorney, Daniel Westbrook, told the judge he would not say more than what his client said. Westbrook declined additional comment after the sentencing hearing.

Holland told CBS affiliate KLAS-TV after his sentencing that the killing was sparked by a confrontation and claimed that Miller had threatened him.

"It was very heated," Holland told KLAS-TV from jail. "He had a gun, and I had a gun."

Holland was friends with Miller, 65, who lived on a houseboat at Lake Mead, the Colorado River reservoir about a 30-minute drive from Las Vegas.

Miller was reported missing in November 2021, and investigators later determined he was killed during an argument with Holland.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Thursday that in jailhouse interviews, Holland said he wanted police to investigate whether Miller was responsible for the disappearance of Miller's ex-wife, Jing Me Zhu, in 2018 or 2019.

"I'm going to prison for the rest of my life, and I just want to make sure that she wasn't forgotten," Holland told the newspaper.

Holland said he believed Zhu lived in China and Canada before marrying Miller in 2018. In divorce proceedings less than a year later, Miller alleged in court documents that Zhu left him and moved to China. Records showed that Zhu could not be located to receive a court summons.

Westbrook told the newspaper that Holland believes Zhu is dead and that Miller killed her.

Holland did not provide details of Miller's death, the Review-Journal reported.

Las Vegas police said Thursday they had no missing person investigation related to Zhu.


Police previously said Holland drove away from patrol officers trying to stop him on Dec. 23, 2021, in a stolen pickup truck and that he was seen switching vehicles before he was arrested in the second vehicle by officers who tracked him to an apartment complex west of the Las Vegas Strip.

Police later found receipts in the vehicles for items including a power saw and trash bags purchased from a home improvement store after Miller's disappearance.

Holland had been sought since May 2019 on an arrest warrant in a 2018 case in Las Vegas accusing him of embezzlement, identity theft, issuing false checks and theft, according to court records. He had posted $5,000 bail in that case.

Records show Holland also used the name Eric Allen Holland and served prison time in Nevada for a felony theft conviction stemming from a 2000 forgery case in Las Vegas. He also used names including John Carl Hall, Phil Whidden, Robert Daniel Lauer and Steven Tauber, prison records show.

Holland had prior felony convictions dating to 1987 in California for embezzlement, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest causing substantial bodily harm and property theft and false identification, according to a Las Vegas prosecutor, prison and court records.

Records show that Holland was convicted in Texas in a federal counterfeiting case, and later of attempted escape and aiding in an escape.

Girls usually wanna keep you alive and suffering.

I did see that. Crazy, right? Who shoots thru their own door? BUT we were just discussing poll workers, election pushers, canvassers, etc etc.......WHY is a 15 yr old out there?

I was not taught that. Like a lot of things, I had to make errors and learn on my own.......especially as an adult.

Not just nasty divorces.......but continued punishment over children/custody.

I saw it........it was ugly. I think some people are even worse today.

A FedEx driver confessed to abducting and killing 7-year-old Athena Strand after he delivered a package to her family's home, Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said at a press conference Friday night.

Police found Strand's body southeast of Boyd, Texas. Digital evidence and interviews lead investigators to believe that Strand died within an hour of her abduction, according to Akin.

The driver, 31-year-old Taner Lynn Horner, is in jail and is being charged with capital murder and aggravated kidnapping. Horner, who is a resident of Lake Worth, is being held on a $1.5 million bond, according to Akin.

"The answers were not the answers that we would have hoped that we would have gotten. And we want to send our condolences out to the family of Athena Strand," Akin said.

Early on in their investigation, law enforcement officers knew that there was a FedEx delivery made at the same time Strand went missing, Akin said.

Horner, who was working as a contract FedEx driver, was not related to the family and did not know the family, Akin said.

Akin said law enforcement were able to get a confession from Horner, saying this has been one of the "toughest" investigations he has ever been involved in.

"Any time there's a child that dies, it just hits you in your heart. You compare that child to your own children when they were at that age."


Law enforcement officials said they were able to locate and find Horner through digital evidence and by partnering with FedEx.

Officials said they are unaware if Horner has a prior criminal history. The investigation is ongoing.

In a statement, FedEx expressed their condolences for Strand's killing.

"Words cannot describe our shock and sorrow at the reports surrounding this tragic event. First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family during this most difficult time, and we continue to cooperate fully with the investigating authorities. I don't really care if idiots never learn their lesson. What bothers me is clowns like that guy being fed and cared for decades after such a crime.
