So therefore, one can also choose to NOT be offended. One has that right. Why does no one seem to exercise it? Why don't people want to live together happily? Why do people choose to hate?

But seriously, choosing to be offended by words will almost certainly turn one into a hypocrite... 99.999% certain

It seems people have forgotten the old chant, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names can never hurt me." Although personally, I prefer, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains excite me." However, as a professional lazy fucker, I find I simply can't be bothered to expend the effort and energy required to remain offended on a permanent basis... and life's too short in any case.

Both "sides" seem prone to throw out the good advice of the past in favor of pissing people off in the present.
This world needs an enema and part of me is hoping Russia chooses the nuclear option so that the reset button gets flipped.

Between Russia's obsession with Ukraine, China's obsession with Taiwan, climate change, global recession, global pandemic, hidden near Earth objects in the Sun's glare and fuck knows what else, all I can say is I wish the cockroaches the best of luck. Although secretly, I still have high hopes for the octopuses... Cockroaches for the short-term win, octopuses for the long-term victory.

Ideally I agree for the most part. OTOH some words have a long history of accompanying actions of systemic hatred, violence, and outright evil. These are going to be harder to ignore.

I'm not offended by the words.
I'm disgusted that we all this type of hatred to be taught in our homes and schools.

Didn't T.S. Elliot say something about how mankind can't bear too much reality? If that's the case I don't disagree that maybe we shouldn't be teaching our kids too much of what actually went down.
