The Conversation White supremacy is the root of all race-related violence in the USJennifer Ho, Professor of Asian American Studies, University of Colorado Boulder Thu, April 8, 2021, 7:02 AM Amid the disturbing rise in attacks on Asian Americans since March 2020 is a troubling category of these assaults: Black people are also attacking Asian Americans. White people are the main perpetrators of anti-Asian racism. But in February 2021, a Black person pushed an elderly Asian man to the ground in San Francisco; the man later died from his injuries. In another video, from New York City on March 29, 2021, a Black person pushes and beats an Asian American woman on the sidewalk in front of a doorway while onlookers observe the attack, then close their door on the woman without intervening or providing aid. As the current president of the Association for Asian American Studies and as an ethnic studies and critical race studies professor who specializes in Asian American culture, I wanted to address the climate of anti-Asian racism I was seeing at the start of the pandemic. So in April 2020, I created a PowerPoint slide deck about anti-Asian racism that my employer, the University of Colorado Boulder, turned into a website. That led to approximately 50 interviews, workshops, talks and panel presentations that I’ve done on anti-Asian racism, specifically in the time of COVID-19. The point I’ve made through all of those experiences is that anti-Asian racism has the same source as anti-Black racism: white supremacy. So when a Black person attacks an Asian person, the encounter is fueled perhaps by racism, but very specifically by white supremacy. White supremacy does not require a white person to perpetuate it.

I was going to add that article to the humanvoices.proboards.com/thread/267/aapi-black-people-whiteys-fault thread but I got tied up doing other things Thanks for posting! Sadly, pointing out racism against whites is grounds for being called "racist" these days. One of these days I'll get around to groveling and asking forgiveness for things I never did... other than being born, but not today.

Nope. And neither the "left" nor "right" want to admit their complicity in making Orwell correct.

I was also going to mention......... this is an 'educated' person pushing this, right?
It just proves to me that people given any power over others are just as able to abuse it as everyone else. Doesn't matter the race, gender, religion, etc etc

In the "Grand Scheme" it's the only slope.

Alright, Hatfield! It's ON!!
People seem to expect so much from their fellow citizens these days....... it's becoming beyond bizarre, imo

See how it works, McCoyovianinni?
The good "olde" days when you smiled or said, "Hello" to a passing neighbor because you were being friendly as opposed to having some secret hatred covered by a fake smile; when you could help a neighbor struggling to open their door while carrying 4 bags of groceries without being accused of assuming the other person "incapable of doing it for themself"; when you just went ahead and cut your elderly neighbor's lawn and a payment of a glass of water/lemonade/ice tea was enough.
But let's face facts, politeness IS a power-play. We expect a smile in return. We expect a favor or other kindness in return. We expect the old lady to watch our house and collect our mail when we go on vacation. However, these small power-plays that we call, "being neighborly" are at the heart of civilization. It is only when our politeness is not returned that problems start... or when we fail to return a kindness.
One of the oldest tropes in modern times of kindness not being returned leading to a dysfunctional neighborhood is that of the "borrowed item not being returned": a kindness not being reciprocated; the ending of the back-and-forth power-play that allows civilization to grow and flourish.
Nowadays, people expect kindness in return for not calling you names.
That's not civilization. That's a society so fearful of violence (physical or otherwise*) that they start to keep away from each other rather than coming together. This is a regression to base tribalism.
*Being trolled, doxed, or "cancelled" are all forms of violence and that's why doing those things are pretty much the only way to get thrown out of this little slice of civilization called "Human Voices." Arguments are arguments. Reconcile and move on.

The anti-bullies have quickly become the biggest of bullies.
Interesting your take on expectations, though. The religious guy I chat with wrestles with the notion of whether or not altruism exists. He's really a go out of his way Samaritan type....... but kind of acts surprised that most of the rest of the people are, in fact, NOT.

Altruism is so rare that you are more likely to encounter a white lion in the wild than witness true altruism.
Remind your friend that he practices his "Samaritanism" not out of his true desire to help others but in an effort to remain in the good graces of his god. It's a power-play.

He's a bit inconsistent, though......... he loves bringing up the Christians of the Crusades and other more war-like attitudes that are so often referenced in the good book
Weird on that white lion theory, too........... I realize what you're saying about true altruism........ but I also, shockingly maybe?, tend to believe that most people are somewhat good in nature......as in they really don't go out of their way to harm others.

1. Excellent moments to remind him of his "power-play." 2. "Being good" is what we expect of those engaging in the power-play that others call "the social contract." Even if they say they don't expect anything in return, you can be damn sure that they enjoy the social "stroking" they receive in recompense.
